Maternity jeans - recommendations please?

Hi

Are there any good maternity jeans out there? I have bought some Red Herring over the bump ones and they just will NOT stay up. They're comfy for lounging around the house in but as soon as I take a couple of steps they've slipped down under my bum!

Can anyone please recommend some that will stay up - if such a thing exists! I am 5'9", size 14, 15+1 and I prefer over the bump styles. Would be able to pay up to £40.

TIA everyone :)

I love my next maternity jeans. 2nd time round and still really comfy etc. there are a couple of pairs in the clearance section of the website. I prefer under bump but there are over bump ones there.

GinPalace · 14/04/2012 10:15

I've always had H&M over-bump ones and always been happy - never had any slipping down on me yet. They would also come in on your budget.

RockChick1984 · 14/04/2012 10:36

I never found any over bump jeans that stayed up Sad so I lived in under bump jeans with a belt on to stop them falling down!

NinjaChipmunk · 14/04/2012 10:45

H&M as they are over the bump but have under the bump belt loops to prevent slippage. Genius. I have 2 pairs and live in them when I'm not at work.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 14/04/2012 10:45

I would hazard a guess that at 15 weeks you don't have a massive bump yet (I certainly don't!) - they will likely fit much better in a month and not fall down. In the meantime, you could go for some underbump jeans?

ladygagoo · 14/04/2012 11:16

I would also recommend H&M jeans. I love mine. I was wearing them from about 12 weeks and as ninja has suggested they have belt loops so you can keep them up when the bump is still small. I was a size 12 and fitted into the 14's so you might need to go up a size.

They cost £29.99 I think. I am 5'8 and have long legs, these H&M ones are fine (with flat shoes) whereas I tried Next x-long ones and they were hopeless at staying up.

strawberrypenguin · 14/04/2012 11:19

Jojo mammon bebe (think that's the right spelling) I loved mine from there, really comfy and stayed up! Reasonable price too £30

FreshwaterPlimpies · 14/04/2012 12:57

I too loved my H+M bootcut over-bump jeans. I'm 5'8 and found them a good length. Wore them from 16 weeks to about 32 weeks before leggings became my friends. Am normally a 14, but bought a 16 and they were good for me. Couldn't abide my under-bump pair when sitting down. Don't know if it was the extra strain on my bladder, but it just wasn't comfy to have anything low down on the bump..
Only problem with the H&M I went to was that the selection was limited.

Goldrill · 14/04/2012 14:06

H&M here too - I tried loads on and found that even the ones which were comfy were deeply unflattering, wheras H&M ones look just like normal jeans. Think it's the size of the back pockets for me - too big and my bum looks its true size!

joannita · 14/04/2012 15:53

Hi I got some mamalicious ones off the internet. I'm tall like you and H&M ones are too short on me, so these could be worth a pop. Really pleased with these jeans. They were around the £40 mark and have adjustable elastic as well as bump panel so they stay up while your bump is not big enough to fill the panel. I got size 14 even though I'm usually a 12 because I'm having twins and figured I'd need the extra space. I'm glad I got the larger size because they're skinny jeans and they shrank in the dryer so now fit perfectly.

hamncheese · 14/04/2012 15:58

H&M again :) mine are under the bump but with the jersey material over it if you get me also look just like normal jeans

ScarlettAlexandra · 14/04/2012 16:04

i loved my skinny under the bump jeans from mama's and pappas. i didnt like the over the bump kind they made my back hurt more than it did.

Alibobster · 14/04/2012 16:42

Just bought some New Look ones on-line and they are fab. Different styles and lengths available and only £16.99. Tried to order some from Next and they were £35 and said they would take 9 weeks!

cheesymonster · 14/04/2012 17:33

Thank you everyone! Looks like I need to do some shopping :)

I have a pair from Next (over bump) and a bit big as only 21 wks but they're v comfy. Also got under bump skinnies from Top Shop maternity which are super comfortable and also quite smart looking if you were going out say with a nice top and shoes. Got a bit of stretch too. Cos they're dark denim also quite slimming (I'm 5'8 and 12-14 per bump).

Have fun shopping!

farmerswifey · 14/04/2012 18:06

I LOVE my Next jeans with a narrow bump band - SO comfy and they wash lovely. I think they were only about £30 and delivered the next day.

wickedfairy · 14/04/2012 18:10

I have over the bump ones from previous preg's from Next and they are really comfy. I had to go down a size, as the 12's were massive. The 10's fitted perfectly and kept their shape, even though I am nowhere near a 10!

Had over the bump trousers/combats from H&M and they were also great.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 14/04/2012 18:51

I got some last time in gap and they were great. I've looked them out for this time. I preferred over the bump as it gave a nicer bump shape rather than having the other style.

RachelWalsh · 14/04/2012 18:58

I have top shop ones which aren't over the bump and which were great in earlier pregnancy. I am currently living in my gap over the bump skinnies though which are a lovely soft denim and very flattering, I wish I'd discovered them earlier and not bothered with the top shop ones.

SarryB · 14/04/2012 20:30

Next jeans are ace!! I got the over the bump ones which are just starting to get a bit tight, but I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, so I can live with it.
Also, they do different leg lengths, which is good for stumpy me.

BrandyAlexander · 14/04/2012 20:43

Mamas and Papas. I loved them so much that I only stopped wearing them when I had lost all the pregnancy weight and they were dropping down so unflattering. They were just gorgeous!

rocket74 · 14/04/2012 22:23

I'm wearing a pair from New look i got 3 years ago and still fit well.
But i am also wearing Dorothy Perkins super skinny jeans as they are super stretchy. I am not remotely skinny but the size 20 is fitting over my bump still and I am 31+3 weeks and still feel comfortable. They are arent heavy denim either so you dont get too hot in them. £25 a pair. I wear a jojomaman support bump band all the time which helps stop any slippage.

TruthSweet · 14/04/2012 22:39

I'm on baby no. 4 and have only just found jeans that don't fall down! Next ones with a 3" elastic band at the top of the waist.

The ones with the stretchy pockets from New Look seem to be the worst of any I have had - even with the elastic buttoned up as small as possible they fall down if I walk! Mind you I had mat. jeans from M&S with the huge bandeau over the bump bit and they fell down even the day I gave birth (39w 5d)....

Naisy · 16/04/2012 07:52

Top Shop under the bump jeans rock. I plan to keep wearing them post pregnancy!

They are also very 'on trend'. I bought lots of different pairs online and sent them all back bar the Top Shop ones. They also stock lots old coloured jeans at the moment if that's your thing...

monkeypuzzeltree · 16/04/2012 10:25

I think I've tried all the jeans on, costing from £20 to £150 in my desperate search for decent skinny jeans with over the bump band. Next ones - are huge, not a flattering fit, new look ones went baggy after a couple of days wearing. I then managed to get some mamas and papas ones in the sale, nice jeans but do fall down a bit. My best ones have been the gap ones, the bump band comes up really high and does stay up - as much as any do, denim is nice and I think there is a 30% off at gap at the moment and they cost around 60 full price. And, just remembered, got some great coloured jeans from h&m, really flattering and well fitted, if you sign up to their online newsletter and order them, you gt 25% off and they are only about 25 - more like summer weight jeans.
