Hi, I'm almost 27wks and yesterday I had the most painful rib pain on my left side that had me in tears. I had it from 10am Thurs til about 4 this morning. Called up maternity ward at hosp and they didnt seem worried, just said to have paracetamols and a hot bath. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this. On a scale of 1-10 I'd say it was a 7 (and Im comparing that to when I broke my ankle in 3 places!) Its practically gone now, just aches slightly.

Yes, I have had rib pain REALLY bad in my 1st & current pregnancy. The lower rib gets stuck and causes a burning pain under the boob and at the back.

A trip to the chiro really sorts it out for me. Costs a few quid, but worth every penny.

The little treasure may well have their feet in your ribs so they are kicking, bruising your ribs, then kicking the bruise. DS did this and it was like a knife in the ribs! Apart from my sympathies, that's all I can give you, sorry. Not dangerous, just unpleasant. On the scan, were they kind of u-shaped? DS was. Just take painkillers and plot your revenge for when the kid is a teenager!

isn't it called rib flare or something like that? I've had it in this pregnancy, although it seems to have gone a bit now - I'm 36 weeks now.

I've had this too especially this last week (27 weeks on sunday). Really agonising and also on the left side. Has made it impossible to sleep on left side!
I saw an osteopath today and he said and it did help. He also recommended stretching for when it is really bad - things like the cat stretch (where you go on all 4s and arch your back then straighten it) and childs pose (where you kneel down and stretch your arms forward along the floor - google them to make sure you do them right. He also recommended using an exercise ball to do some stretches. I'm doing prenatal yoga, which has taught me lots of nice stretches, so worth looking into if you can.

Hope it eases soon...for both of us Wink

Look up Tietzes syndrome its inflammation of the intercostal muscles between your ribs, you need to take anti inflam medicine.
Good luck I know its horrid

I had this. Was assessed by physio and given a massive tubigrip that went from under my boobs to my hips. Apparently my DS was making room up the way, rather than down the way.

Don't take any anti-inflamatories until you've checked with your doc. I don't think they're good in pregnancy.

I had shocking rib pain - my baby was breach and liked to stand on tiptoe on my cervix and ram her head up into my ribs. It was excruciating and only relieved by lying down and stretching my arms up over my head.

Good luck!

I also had terrible rib pain which got so bad towards the end of the day that I struggled to sleep and get comfortable. I found my bra also rubbed and made it worse so try go without when you're home. I found a hot water bottle and paracetamol helped.

Mine lasted from about 4 months to 6 months but as the baby moves down it gets better
