Should I be worried?

I'm 13+4 weeks. The past couple of days I've been really suffering. Yesterday I was sick really bad, the worst I have been throughout the PG. I haven't been able to eat properly and even drinking water makes me want to throw up. Earlier on when I was trying to be sick, I had a sharp pain in the left side of my stomach, and now I have a similar pain in the right side. Should I be concerned? Should I get medical advice, or is it just morning sickness getting worse? Would love any advice please.

If you're struggling to keep water down you could become dehydrated. I'd get to the doc if I were you and see if they can give you something for the sickness x

Thanks sparkle. I was seeming to get better a couple of weeks ago but all of a sudden this week, just seem to have really gone down hill. It's driving me mad :( I keep getting bad headaches and earaches with it too Confused

I would definitely go to the GP - you sound as though you really, really are suffering hun, and if you can't keep water down then you are very quickly going to get dehydrated. Living for four months on Weetabix, Cuppasoup and toast doesn't do much harm to you or baby (I talk from experience and an 8lb baby!) but being dehydrated does. Try ice lollies and Cuppasoup to keep you going but please keep an eye on how much you are peeing etc and, as its the weekend, call the out of hours doc or go to A&E if you still can't drink.

As for the side pain, it could simple be a muscle strain from excessive straining (been there, done that!) but I did know someone who ripped the ligaments or something like that, it was almost like a hernia, from all the puking. Another (in)dignity of pregnancy.

Hope you feel better but if not do talk to your GP and see if you think medication will help/suit - there are common medications you can take to help if are happy to take them during pg, I took Stemetil from week 9 until the day DD was born. Don't be fobbed off as you sound as though you have hyperemesis. And there is a hyperemesis support thread on here too!

Hope you feel better, let us know how its goes x

Thanks Bella. I did say to DP the other day that I was a little worried I was dehydrated but he said that he thought I couldn't be because usually I drink a lot, except the past 2 or 3 days. But we hadn't thought of how much I pee as I do seem to forever be in the toilet. I know I've been at least 10 times today at least. Will speak to someone if I haven't improved much by tomorrow.

I know something's not quite right but I didn't know if that was me over reacting and I didn't want to start ringing roubnd out f hours or going to the hospital just to be told I'm just suffering with morning sickness and that I just need to rest. So thanks, you have made me feel a little bit better with your advice :)

It is horrible in the early weeks when you don't know yourself whether it is just morning sickness or whether it is creeping into hyperemesis. But it does sound quite bad. The best thing I ever did was call the out of hours doc on a Saturday morning - in floods of tears, which must have helped! - after throwing up three times by 10am, luckily he was lovely and prescribed me anti-emetics straight away.

If you feel lightheaded or struggle to keep liquid down tomorrow I'd really recommend thinking about A&E because it sounds like you've been struggling with fluids for a few days. There's no such thing as overreacting about your health when you're pg, it's always best to get it checked! And its just practice for when you rush your DC to the docs for every single sniffle Wink

Lol that's very true. Thank you. I shall see how I feel in the morning. It's just typical that DP has to stay over in London tonight so I'm on my own and feeling crap, but will probably head to bed soon with a book and try and relax. Thanks again Bella.

I was able to stomach some food late last night and been able to drink water. I'm feeling incredibly thirsty though. Woke up this morning feeling dizzy as well as with my pounding headache I've had for the past few days. Been able to drink water so far, though I have been feeling odd in my stomach. I'm thinking of calling out of hours doc and see what they recommend.

Bear, I was feeling sorry for myself until I read your thread, as started feeling sicky again today after a few weeks off, am 15 weeks, but poor you! I now feel like I should get my lazy arse out of my PJs and get on with it :)

bettybat · 14/04/2012 16:57

Bear, I'm 13+2 and last week I had something very similar. I woke up with what felt like a horrendous hangover - pounding headache that didn't go, I was sick 4 times before I'd eaten anything and continued to be sick all day and I just felt horrific. I went to the shop for bottled water because DH was away and threw up in the shop and the street - awful!

I also became convinced I had C02 poisoning because a) I felt so bad and b) my landlady called about urgent access to the boiler Hmm

It wasn't a virus, like a vomiting bug - it felt different to that, but it was just awful. It last maybe three days. I feel for you, hope you're feeling better x

Bear1984 · 14/04/2012 17:41

Lol spice. Rest in your pjs!

Betty, I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly as well. I hope you're better now.

I spoke to out of hours GP and they arranged for me to see someone who said I'm not dehydrated but may have some kind of virus and that if I don't feel better in a couple of days time to let them know. I had to go on my own as well as DP is at work. Really wish he could come home but he doesn't finish til 10:30. Someone at work even said to him "why you even here?" but there's only him and one other guy in the last hour so he felt bad for not going in. Silly man lol.
