How is it that most people blossom during pregnancy? Not me, only 7 weeks and already I'm spotty, with oily skin and greasy hair! It's not a good look! Lol

People compare me to a ghost like zombie when I'm pregnant :(

sparklekitty · 12/04/2012 11:27

I'm almost 17 weeks and not seen any sign of a bloom yet. Feeling slightly less tired but then I'm in the middle of 2 weeks off so thats probably more to do with it! People tell me 20 weeks is the magic number, I'm really hoping it's true!

TheSurgeonsMate · 12/04/2012 11:32

The bloom comes later. In my case taking the form of several weeks of reliably Good Hair Days. It was lovely.

MillyStar · 12/04/2012 11:32

I'm due today and I've never bloomed! I've just got fat and waddle everywhere lol so proud of my body though I don't even care, every time I get a kick in the ribs I can't believe I've grown a little person it's a miracle x

Florin · 12/04/2012 13:31

I don't think anyone blooms in the first trimester. I looked like (and felt like) I had the worst hangover ever. I felt good at about 16 - 26 weeks. Now 30 weeks, feel huge ache everywhere and according to my dh I walk like a penguin!

BellaCB · 12/04/2012 13:46

I actually felt good for the last few weeks - and that was it! First 25 weeks puking, ten weeks after that feeling faaaaar to big to be commuting on the Tube... but then Christmas came and my maternity leave started and I actually felt quite good. But 'bloom'? Never. My hair never looked good, my nails never grew, my skin never went peachy... I think it is a myth! Grin

(However, the first trimester is generally HIDEOUS so I promise, even if you don't bloom you will start to feel a better at some point!)

Pascha · 12/04/2012 13:47

I never bloomed, unless you count acne blooms.

littleshinyone · 12/04/2012 13:51

really? do some women actually bloom, actually feel good during pregnancy?

i think they're just better at lying than the rest of us Wink

first pregnancy: horrid beginning, tiring middle, ok end
second: worse beginning, exhausting middle, uncomfortable sleeplesss end. feel much better now i'm dealing with a toddler and a 3 week old than i did being pregnant!!

good luck OP!

RedBlanket · 12/04/2012 13:55

I looked shit for all but about 2 weeks around the 20 week mark.
Your only 7 weeks in you may well bloom yet.

MrsPaynie · 12/04/2012 15:12

I never bloomed in my last two pregnancies either, so don't have much hope this time round lol even though I am only 7 weeks. Spent the whole 9 months spotty with limp lifeless hair lol. Rather annoying considering Ive never had spots at any other time (even as a teenager) and I really look after my hair! X

2 pregnancies and I looked total shit all the way through them both.

On #3 now and look just as shit. I am definitely not a bloomer....

LIG1979 · 12/04/2012 15:59

I knew I was pregnant when my skin broke out about 3 days before AF and it normally only breaks out when I am ovulating. (A natural contraceptive since I look terrible at my fertile bit of the month.) After feeling sick till around 11 weeks and like death warmed up till about 18 weeks, I think I am having my bloom and hoping it lasts.....although now at 23 weeks it sounds from the other posts it could be over soon! My skin is good, my hair is the best it has ever been (but that is also because I haven't dyed it for over a year now and the dye damage has grown out) and whilst I am a little tired I do feel great!! Fingers crossed you will get there OP.

My best mate says it's bollocks and nobody does and she felt awful the whole time. But to my eyes she looked wonderful.

I'm 8+3 and have felt vile for a fortnight. DH keeps literally catching himself and saying he can't believe he's with someone as pretty as me. I have no idea what he's seeing as I used to think I was an attractive enough woman but currently look like the walking dead. I really don't think he's faking it but then my friend is certain I'm misremembering her glow.

MissPenteuth · 12/04/2012 16:42

I didn't bloom last time and it looks like I won't be blooming this time either. I just get fat and spotty :( Oh, and my body hair seems to grow faster when I'm pg, so I'm hairy too Hmm

SchrodingersMew · 12/04/2012 16:46

I didn't bloom at all and had crap hair and spots the whole way through, although seemed to glow after DS was born and hair got a little better I think.

luckysocks · 12/04/2012 20:16

I bloomed :) ......

...For about a week-and-a-half. Maybe a whole couple of weeks actually.

First trimester is DEFINITELY not about blooming for me; a blur of nausea, lank hair, pale deathly skin, chubby look.

Somewhere towards the end of the second trimester my nausea eases and I get a proper bump and I look a bit better but definitely not blooming.

At the very beginning of the third I look OK and I get a burst of energy (mostly nesting related) and that's when I feel pretty good and usually get a few compliments, mostly down to having the energy to put make-up on again.

At 34 weeks (just) it's now passed - lank hair again, knackered, look like a cartoon character in everything I try on, got the comedy waddle.

And I generally consider myself to get off quite lightly during pregnancy!

Purplecatti · 13/04/2012 09:39

I'm 12+4 and I think I look like crap. Swollen, tired, few more spots than normal but not acne, thankfully, yet anyway. Random bouts of vomiting and feeling permanently exhausted have not helped me feel any better either.
However my mother came up and I met her with hair scraped back and not a scrap of make up on my pasty dark circled face and she said in amazement 'you're looking BRILLIANT'.
Blimey.
Maybe it's just me then
