Lying on tummy

I know it's safe to lie on my tummy during early pregnancy and I know there is no way I should be able to feel anything at 10wks. But when I lie on my tummy it feels like I'm lying on a small stone or ball or something . Am I imagining things ?

I heard that you shouldnt lie on your stomach once you hit 16 weeks though Im currently 18 weeks and often wake up on my front!
I think the more pregnant I get, the more uncomfortable this will become so I wont physically be able to lie that way - until then, Im pretty sure its fine and I dont think you can squash baby.

As for your feeling of a ball / stone, Im not sure. I havent personally felt that.

Yeah pos I was the same with dc1 I lay on my tummy until I was about 20wks I think I was told it was fine as long as I was comfortable . But this time it's like I can feel a wee hard lump when I lie on my front . It's so annoying it's really breaking my sleep . I should hopefully see a midwife soon tho as I am due my scan soon so I'll maybe mention it .

23 weeks and still lie on my tummy but try to bend my leg at the knee to put the weight there if that makes sense?

smokinaces · 11/04/2012 20:16

I slept on my front right up until 41 weeks. Was wedged with what felt like hundreds of pillows but still slept on my front basically.

Worst nights in my life were post c-sections when I couldnt physically lie on my front until 6 weeks post partum. Sad

I had heard its something to do with a vein or blood flow or something - something to do with lying on your left side more dangerous than right or something? To be honest I just slept how I could!!

HamblesHandbag · 11/04/2012 20:48

could that wee hard lump be your expanding/stretching womb?

I could feel my womb in early pregnancy in pg 1&2

Ooooh, I'm only 9 weeks and have just found I can't do it anymore just through tenderness. Last night I nicked hubbies pillow and slept with it tucked under my belly which felt much more comfy and I finally got a full nights sleep.

Good luck to you all! I am nearly 39 weeks and can only dream of lying on my tummy.

mrswee · 11/04/2012 21:47

I love to sleep on my tummy. The worst thing for me was that I found not only I that couldn't do this after about 16 weeks and but this comtinued for almost a year AFTER my last pregnancy as I had no stomach mucles left to speak off and I would lie on my front and within mins it started to feel like my lower back was colapsing and it was a really really painful position to get out of... oh and forget attempting to lie on your front with boobs ful of milk!

blushingmare · 11/04/2012 22:38

Yes I had this from about 8 weeks too - felt like I was squashing something solid.

SarryB · 12/04/2012 10:42

I'm with umbongo - nearly 38 weeks and dream of sleeping on my front!

Now I can only lie on my side, and change sides about 3 times an hour. Grr.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 11:23

I would guess the lump will be your uterus, which will be full of liquid and expanding with your pregnancy :)

lalabaloo · 12/04/2012 14:55

I actually found sleeping on my front impossible during early pregnancy, and much more comfortable now, I often find myself asleep on my side/front with my knee tucked up to support the weight. I'm 36 weeks and sometimes this is the only way I can drift off

LordyLady · 12/04/2012 15:28

OOoooo I looooong to lie on my front! I think it's ok until you get a giant bump, then you can't lie that way anyway. I'm 31 weeks now and get a punch or a kick every time I squash my bean Grin but the pillow mountain seems to be working.....get the impression poor DP wants to move out into a hotel for the next 10 weeks though :)
