I'm nearly 12 wks pg and have come down with what I hope is just a hideous cold but has wiped me out. My temp is normal ( I think - 36.8) but my nose is totally blocked, sore throat, mild earache, swollen glands and now, really achy. Should I be concerned and is there anything I can do except rest? Am really worried that it will somehow hurt the baby but I know deep down that the reason I feel so cr*p is because he/she is filching my vitamins. wne to the pharmacy and they said shouldnt take paracetamol wothout gp's supervision!!

If you can offer me any reassurance or advice,I'd really appreciate it. i have trawled the threads as i was sure I'd read something but can't find any threads. thanks. x

You can take paracetamol without having to trek to the docs!! Just stick to the dose, don't have an extra one for "good luck"!!

If your nose is blocked steam over a bowl of hot water, you could add some menthol, or vicks or something like that, if you want to.

It doesn't help you i know, but lots of us have suffered with this just lately! The joys of pregnancy!!

Oh you poor thing! I am just recovering from the same, I am 32 weeks. I just stayed in bed, drunk plenty of fluids, particually vit c drinks, and I found that using vicks vapour rub really helped.
I know that it sounds simple but propping myself up in bed seemed to help my sinuses and throat. Hope you soon feel better, take it easy and rest.Dont worry about little one! you are right he/she will be taking all the goodness from your body for themselves. nature will take good care of baby!

Olivo - I am also suffering with the dreaded cold. I am 22 wks pregnant, I have taken nothing at all, The paracetamol is primarily to lower your temperature if you have a fever, the fever is the only part of the cold that will effect the baby. The cold will not get past the placenta, so baby will be fine.
I drank lots and made sure i had a glass of orange juice and took my vitamin tablets. Thats all you can do.

thanks everyone. ended up phoning the oncall doctor last night as my temp started going up - was advised to take just 1 paracetamol every 6 hrs and if it didnt work after the first couple of doses, take 2. seems to have worked overnight with just 1, my temp has gone down - it wasnt massively high, I guess I've nipped it in the bud. off to drink as many smoothies as i can today, but unfortunately, I still have the end of the dreaded morning sickness too!! Roll on 12 wks!(hopefully!)
