hiya just looking for some advice. I am supposed to be taking part in a 10k run in Glasgow on 13th May however i have just found out i am pregnant after a long spell on clomid and over a year of trying and I will be 10 weeks pregnant on that date. I was wondering if it is safe to do a 10k at that stage? my DH and mum is advising me not to do it just in case something happens but im not too sure what to do x

Do you already run long distances?

If you're not already a regular runner, I would say absolutely not. But, if you already do this sort of exercise quite often, then you may be okay to continue. However, I found in my first trimester, I really struggled with exercise as I became light-headed really easily (something to do with changes in blood pressure) and got very hot and out of breath very quickly.

Given your history, I might be inclined to sit this one out.

I was meant to be doing a half marathon in berlin last weekend so would have been 14 weeks and while I am a regular runner, I'd been travelling in India so not doing very much and would have had to really train hard for the month after I got back to do it any justice so I decided to be nice to myself and not to bother. I get more out of breath, need the loo more and now is about looking after myself and bambino not becoming a better runner.
You can always do it when the baby is born maybe - good incentive to start moving again! I think I might try something like that.
