How much weight did you put on/ lose in the first trimester?

I am 10 weeks exactly and have lost 3lbs (mainly I think because I've been eating much healthier and not drinking alcohol). I did an online pregnancy weight calculator and it's telling me I should have put on 5lbs by now.

Not too fussed because I my pre-pregnancy weight was nearly a stone heavier than I would wish to be so I like to think I've got the necessary fat stores. I'm sure I'll make up for it during the second tri!

How did your weight change during the first trimester? Up? down? Stayed the same?

Probably lost about 7 lb in the first trimester but I was being sick a lot so wasn't surprised. More than made up for it during the rest of pregnancy :)

DessieLou · 10/04/2012 17:29

I am only 6 weeks but have lost half a stone in the last two weeks...just can't stomach anything! Like yourself though I can afford to lose it, I was a good stone and half overweight. I hear it is quite normal during the first trimester and as long as you are being healthy I wouldn't worry too much.
Congratulations and good luck! Smile

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/04/2012 17:30

Put on about 10 stone because the only thing that stops the nausea is food. And I haven't enjoyed a single mouthful. Bastards.

Weezie85 · 10/04/2012 17:30

10 kg from week 8 to week 28.
I was very ill all of the time though. Again wasn't worried as I was overweight to begin with. Even 33 + 6 I still weigh less than I did before being pregnant.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/04/2012 17:30

Oh, and I'm only 8 weeks.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 10/04/2012 17:33

Lost over a stone. Have, at 38+2, regained just 3/4lbs, if that. Was average size 12 before, will be smaller post PG.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 10/04/2012 17:37

I have gained 2 stone since the beginning and only have 3 weeks to go. I gained about a stone in those first 3 months (I needed to gain about a stone) xx

Whysoserious · 10/04/2012 17:44

I guess this shows the weight gain calculators are a load of nonsense because everyone is different!

I honestly can't see myself gaining that much weight over the course of my pregnancy because I can't eat any of the food I love and I can't drink. Im being forced to be healthy Wink

Although I seem to have developed and aversion to lots of healthy foods so what I am eating is very limited in nutrients. I have to force myself to swallow veg and fish whilst I dream of a nice juicy burger with a blue cheese topping!

I do sympathise with those of you feeling ill though. I'm quite lucky, I've just felt a bit nauseous but not actually been sick.

I lost 20lbs in the first 12 weeks due to hyperemesis. When he was born, I weighed less then before I'd got pregnant.

Sadly, I've put it all on again now.

BikeRunSki · 10/04/2012 17:47

Lost a stone and a half in first trimester of both pg due to hypermisis. Put it back on by the time babies were 3 months old due to low mobility post cs and sitting around eating cake.

Spiritedwolf · 10/04/2012 18:05

I was losing weight with healthy eating/smaller portion sizes etc before I got pregnant. I'd lost about 6 stone, with another 6 stone to lose to get into normal BMI range. At my booking in appointment I had a bit of extra Christmas weight (day after boxing day).

Then over January and February, I lost quite a bit due to morning all day sickness. Maybe 11lbs.

Since then, I've put some weight back on, about 7lbs or so, which still leaves me 3-4lbs lighter than at booking in. I've just got to 25 weeks. I don't think I'd have put on quite so much at this point, if I hadn't increased my appetite whilst I had a lot of sickness, and got used to larger portions and some unhealthy food again.

I'm going to try and eat a bit healthier and maintain this weight for as long as I can without denying me/baby anything or being silly. Mainly by starting pregnancy yoga, aquanatal and eating less junk food.

I don't think I've put on any fat (I had plenty to begin with!) except perhaps in my breasts, but don't know how much of that is necessary for milk production! My wedding rings etc are looser than they were at the start of pregnancy, so I'm not worried that I've put on anything more than is genuine pregnancy weight. Kind of hope my first weight after baby will be less than I started out pregnancy with though obviously I'll have other things on my mind by then!

Want to get back into losing weight once baby is here and breastfeeding is properly established so that I can be the active mum I want to be and be more healthy for future pregnancies.

So I lost a bit, and am putting it back on slowly. Everyone's different.

PregnantCappuccinoDrinker · 10/04/2012 20:02

I lost about 5lbs in the first trimester through morning sickness. When weighed at the booking in appointment I was the lightest I'd been in years! Took quite a while to gain anything back actually but at 28 weeks have put on about 10lbs since then.

DangerMousey · 10/04/2012 20:08

I am only 6 weeks pregnant but have already put on 2lbs. Was at the top end of 'healthy' for my height before I got pregnant, so am disappointed to be putting on weight so early, when it can't possibly be 'the baby'!

I have been feeling absolutely ravenous for the last 2 weeks, and over the last 3-4 days, pretty nauseous too. And like fruitsalad the only thing that seems to calm my nausea is eating :( Mostly bread and cakes. Strangely, fruit doesn't seem to touch it!

McPopcornMouseNFries · 11/04/2012 09:24

I gained 5lbs in the first 6 weeks (no MS, but I expect it was water retention) but now it's levelled off and I've not gained anything since (I'm now 14+4)

McPopcornMouseNFries · 11/04/2012 09:29

danger if you're worried, have you tried lower calorie carbs like rice crackers? Snackajacks do lovely salt and vinegar ones, and toffee ones that taste like popcorn - they've been a lifesaver for me :)

Fraktal · 11/04/2012 09:33

I gained nothing for ages, nearly 6 months (and got told off) and then put on 2kg seemingly overnight between appts (and got told off).

ballroomblitz · 11/04/2012 12:10

I gained 17lbs Shock in the first trimester. Had no sickness and was constantly eating from stopping smoking. I think some was water retention too as I felt really bloated and everyone was commenting how big my bump already looked - which now appears to have gone down with everyone telling me I'm really neat.

Have lost 3lb since then so at 17weeks have put on 14lb in total.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 11/04/2012 12:11

Well done for stopping smoking fraktal :)

MissPenteuth · 11/04/2012 12:14

Both times I lost a lb or two in the first trimester (loss of appetite in the first few weeks).

First pregnancy, I gained about 3st total by the end though. This time I'm 14w and have now started to gain (just 2lb so far).

Naisy · 11/04/2012 12:55

I'm 15+1 and since being pregnant have lost 7 pounds gradually over that time. Like others I suspect this is down to calorie deficit from alcohol and eating smaller p[ortions since being pregnant. No morning sickness, but I feel the odd dizzy low blood sugar dip so I have snacked a lot more than usual for me. I have also completely gone off any sweet food, especially chocolate, which can't be bad either!

I'm quite pleased with this result so far as I'm starting to show so am not concerned about baby health as the 12 week scan was fine.

Before being pregnant I was at the top end of my healthy BMI range and a size 12.

MatriarchalDreams · 11/04/2012 14:06

I also lost 3lbs in the first trimester, like you I think it was due to eating healthier and not drinking as I was hardly sick at all. I am now 27 weeks and have put on about half a stone since 12 weeks.

ahhhhhpushit · 11/04/2012 22:04

Am 17 weeks and still a good 7lbs down from BFP weight (BMI was 23 so not high) due to morning sickness.

Aworryingtrend · 13/04/2012 08:45

I weighed myself yesterday with much trepidation but have only gained 2lb since the week before I became pregnant. I'm 13 weeks today.
