I don't know about official research but I had PROM at 36+1 with DD and was keen to know if it was likely to happen again with DC2. Some midwives said I was more likely to go early again, others snorted with derision at their colleagues' predictions - all of which left me none the wiser :) DS was born in a hurry at 37+5, so not early, but obviously I don't cook them for long...

Not at all helpful, sorry, but didn't want you to go unanswered...

I had PROM with my first at 35 weeks, I've since had another 3 children and all were born around thier due date, 39+5, 40+1 and 40+3. Some women do have repeated early births, but most women go on to have normal full term pregnancies :)

It depends on why it happened in the first place. 36+6 with DD1 and didn't think anything of it. 22+6 with DD2. Read into it what you will, but the likelihood is it that it is the law of sod.

Happened with both but I know that the PROM was caused by a malpositioned baby both times. The babies were in those weird positions because I have a wonky and shallow pelvis. This was confirmed after dc2 was born.

20%

I have had pprom with a of mine at 30w, 22w and 14w.

Don't be fobbed off with anyone saying to you 'it's just one of those things'

Best wishes.

I agree with BadNails - it probably depends why it happened in the first place. I had PROM with DD1 at 35 weeks and subsequently found out it was because I had severe polyhydrominos (sp??) due to a serious birth defect. I spent the whole pregnancy with DS worrying he would be early etc but he ended up being 2 weeks late.

I had DS at 34 weeks, PROM the day before his birth. They found no reason for it, still have no idea. Just one of those things, I guess (in my situation anyway).

DD was born at 41 weeks though, so it did not repeat for me...

Good luck!

Powderpink2012 · 12/04/2012 11:41

I had PROM at 26 weeks but was never given a reason why. My midwife has said that it's quite common for it to happen again but my consultnant is of the 'just one of those things' attitude.
It's horrible because I'm constantly waiting for something to happen and am paranoid all the time!!

I have had 3 pprom at 25wks,25wks and 31wks. I still don't no why but my consultant said it will probably happen again if I were to have any more.
Good luck with this pregnancy and I hope all goes well for you.
