I know you can't eat sushi (raw fish) during pregnancy but is it safe to eat smoked salmon and what about serrano ham as this is not cooked either? The other thing I am craving is cheesecake. Worried that it's not safe because how do you know if it contains pasteurised eggs? and thought you couldn't eat soft cheese.

smoked salmon is fine .. I ate it through both of mine

you can make a baked cheesecake quite easily

searrano ham I have no idea about sorry

soft cheese is mould ripened cheese like brie .. not cream cheese like philadelphia

happy to dig out my ever so easy baked cheesecake recipe if you want

That would be fantastic - thankyou. So smoked salmon not really classed as "raw fish"? and also thought anything smoked was a no-no because it contains nitrates?

Really getting paranoid about all the things you can't eat - labels in the shops not very helpful I don't think and all the books I have seem to contradict one another.

Hiya - i've craved and eaten lots of smoked salmon through all 3 of my pregnancies! I've also eaten 'shop' cheesecake as I thought that it was freshly made cheesecake that you shouldn't eat (like eating home-made mayo as opposed to helmans if that makes sense?!) I'd avoid the ham though - I'm fairly sure that you shouldn't eat any sorts of uncooked ham

Thanks for that zephyrcat.
