Constant weeing throughout pregnancy- chamber pot/ to potty or not to potty?!

Right, going to be honest here. Throughout my pregnancy (i'm in week 38 now, baby boy is due next week!) i've experienced the classic pregnancy symptom of frequent urination. I don't know if I wee more than the average pregnant lady, my midwife and some internet researching have both informed me that some women wee just as much as me during their 9 months. At night is the worst, I counted two weeks ago and during one night I weed 13 times. Because of this, and the huge effort to wake up, drag myself out of bed, run down to the toilet in the cold and then wee and go back to bed only to wake up an hour or half an hour later to do the same isn't fun, or conveinient this far in the pregnancy. My fiancee and I are a very close, our relationship isn't about being embarrassed by normal bodily functions. We think nothing of going to the toilet in front of each other, or anything like that. So when I decided to do as the Victorians did and wee into a 'chamber pot'- a ceramic potty, he didn't mind at all and encouraged it as it meant a relatively undisturbed sleep for me and has been a lifesaver ever since, no more 3am, 4am, 5am...and onwards trips downstairs to the freezing cold toilet. I just go to the potty in the room and then empty it out into the loo and wash it every day. It's not about modesty for me as my fiancee is the only one who knows and I want my pregnancy to be comfortable and easy. Has anyone else done this or does it during their pregnancy?

I wee frequently (40+6) but I waddle to the loo. It is close to my bedroom though, and I'm so bloody hot most of the time I quite like the cooking walk.

There's not a moment of the night I'm not grateful for our ensuite. Couldn't cope without it.

Last night was 12 times. And im only 22weeks.

i would. would wee anywhere quite frankly. christened the washing up bowl as soon as I stepped foot on my sisters little boat last year! so would wee away in a bowl. like fliss - i am too hot in the night and also my hip is killing me when i wake up so the short walk across landing for my wee is nice. dp wouldn't care either.

At the moment (25 weeks) I'm only needing to get up 3-5 times a night and our bathroom isn't far, so it's manageable at the moment. Though I am starting to find it awkward to get up from bed or sofa so I appreciate that it might not be manageable later in pregnancy.

Frequent night time wanderings were one of the reasons that I moved the bed around so that I'm closest to the door and don't need to walk around our bed though. I also wanted to be able to get up quickly when I had nausea, though never was sick at night. It also will be better for cot placement once the little one arrives.

Like I said, its manageable (so far) because we live in a small place and the bathroom isn't far. If we lived in our last place with the only toilet at the other end of the house (out the bedroom, down the stairs, through the livingroom, through the kitchen, through the pantry, through the bathroom to little seperate toilet - all through tight awkward spaces etc), I wouldn't hesitate.

Do what works! :)

I would, if I was in your shoes - and even if my OH didn't like it! Luckily, we live in flat, so the loo is not far away. I'm 37 weeks, and usually get up only once to go for a wee, and usually take it as an opportunity to eat something too (I'm constantly hungry at the minute).

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. We have an ensuite but when I stay with parents loo is down about 25 stairs and I'm too awake by the time I get up. I'm 14 weeks so finding I pee madly during day but can now sleep through without having to get up at 5 am to pee thank God. Not looking forward to later pee stages so your plan is a good one! :)

I had a chamber pot because sometimes it was every 15 minutes and I was knackered.

I peed in a bucket in the spare room for the last few weeks of my pregnancy - the toilet was downstairs, I couldn't be doing with going downstairs 5 times a night! I made a regular little en suite with toilet paper, a bottle of water, Gaviscon, and even a packet of biscuits for emergency munchies. Best decision I ever made!

Nice to see i'm not reverting to cave man state and am the only one! Potty's unite! (wink)
