...but can you use your stomach muscles 'normally' while pregnant?
like, holding your stomach in when your still early?
getting out of bed etc
i thought i had to be so careful 1st time round and i don't think it was good for my tummy recovery., esp after em sec
any thoughts?

I don't see why not, I did antenatal yoga during my pregnancy and I'm sure that involved my tummy muscles! I wouldn't go doing sit-ups or anything, but early on the baby isn't even out of your pelvis so I can't see why it would be a problem

Yeah you can, in fact the better toned they are, the better for you, as they can do the job they are designed for more easily. I have a friend who is extraordinarily fit, her husband was a personal trainer and had pilates and yoga qualifications. She had a virtually pain-free birth. The medics complained about her because she was so toned, it made palpation almost inpossible, so they couldn't get what they needed to check the babys progress, but she bounced through birth and was back to normal very quickly afterward too.
