Pressure 'down below' - 14 weeks - any advice?

Hi peeps. Sorry if TMI but am getting desperate.

Had a really bad cough a few weeks ago - felt like I was going to 'cough baby out'. Since then have had a feeling of pressure in my hoo ha low down. Had couple of scans, bean fine but they didn't do transvaginal scan or anything, just checked outside with speculum and did abdominal scan. It got really bad Fri and Sat and my underwear was soaking, then eased off today.

Getting worried I have done something to myself with the bad cough, done something to cervix or leaking Amniotic fluid or something. Anyone any experience of this? Been to hospital twice and they are very nice but baffled, can't see anything I can just feel it. Have AN appt on Fri and going to mention then but worried in case I have incompetent cervix or something.

Did anyone else have these symptoms this early on and if so what was the outcome?

Could it be a prolapse? I suffered after dc1 and during pregnancy on dc2. It felt like a heavy, dragging pain. Also got a lot of back pain with it. Your gp should be able to to a quick exam to check

Thanks for reply fish. They did check for prolapse as I wondered about that - had been having loo (BM) trouble - but apparently there is no sign of it. Having said that the 2 times they checked me I was lying down which is when I feel it the least - it's when I'm sitting or standing I feel it more.

And it's not really pain, just a feeling of pressure, like I am constantly aware of my VG low down. I did ask is this a normal preg thing - more blood in area, more sensitive etc but they seemed a bit baffled. It's not a body part you are normally aware of IYKWIM! Bit like putting in a tampon but not far enough so you can feel it if that makes sense - just irritating.

Only eases off when lying down, especially ON. Tends to get worse as day goes on and when I need a poop or have just done one. Was really bad Fri and Sat and was really worried I was leaking fluid or something. Irritating this evening after going to the loo. Sorry if this is far TMI but desperately hoping someone knows what this might be.

I'd go to gp and insist that they examine you standing up, really sounds like a prolapse to me. are you doing pelvic floor exercises?

If it's a prolapse yes, ask gp to refer you to Physio at maternity hospital. They can work wonders. Feel free to pm me if you need any support/ info

Hi Angelico, hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread, but Fish, can I ask how you are now? I'm 37 weeks pg with my second and had a mild/moderate prolapse (bladder) after my first. It feels quite a bit worse now - all very unsupported and heavy and I'm so worried about my next birth. How was your second labour (if vaginal) and has it all sorted itself out now? thanks.

Second was vaginal and a massive 10lb 6!! I was bad prolapse wise for about 6 months. I was offered surgery but refused and did heavy duty Physio and yoga and it practically healed itself. I have bad days when it bothers me after washing the floors etc so just got a cleaner . Am currently 10 weeks with dc3 and no sign of prolapse so far I'm sure it'll happen but I will just fix again after

Gosh, that's so encouraging to hear - thanks. I've got lots of help too but lifting my toddler is the hardest thing to avoid sometimes. When you say physio, do you mean just lots and lots of pelvic floors, or did you use any special gadgets too? And what type of prolapse did you have? Thanks again - and hope you continue to manage it through your third.

I had that feeling from about 8 weeks (twin pregnancy though).

I went to the GP three times in the end and was examined lying down and squatting (which made it feel the lowest for me). They took swabs to check for infections but all was clear. We decided it must just be a symptom of pregnancy.

I had a C section, but the low down feeling was gone after the birth and I haven't had any problems with pelvic floor since.

I hope try figure out what is causing it for you, but if they say everything looks fine, it is possible to live with the feeling until the birth. It made me walk like John Wayne throughout my whole pregnancy though as it was sore to walk normally

I would honestly be reassured if they just said, "Yes, it's normal, more blood in the area" etc but it's the fact they seem as confused as me that bothers me Will hopefully see OB Consultant this Fri and ask her then. Oh and like you have been swabbed a few times - I did have some greenish discharge on and off but all swabs keep coming back clear . Starting to think I am some kind of medical freak!

I had this sensation off and on from about 16 weeks. It felt like a dragging, pulling sensation, a bit like I was dangling a weight from my hoo ha!! No idea what it was. I did leak from 24 weeks in 2nd pregnancy but not in first so I very much doubt that it was related. Both babies were fine but it scared me to death.

I had a bladder prolapse, and the Physio was targeted pelvic floor exercises. Some fast some slow, different program four times a day. I found yoga great too. I had to adjust almost everything, such as teaching ds how to climb into his highchair ASAP and same with car seat etc. Order big grocery shop on line so not carrying bags etc. I know I'm looking at surgery in the future but am delighted at how well I recovered without.

After dc2 I really didn't think I'd ever be able to go for no 3 and yet here I am

I had this on my first pregnancy ,10 years ago. It was a very odd sensation; but it was never diagnosed as anything. She was a very big baby so maybe just a symptom of pregnancy

Thanks ladies all reassuring. I actually went and got panty liners today and also ordered some PH test strip things so I can check to make sure there is no amniotic fluid. I'm sick of going to the ward - they are going to think I am a header if I keep going - been in twice in a fortnight, once with GP letter, once because they said come back if it doesn't go away. Roll on Fri when will hopefully see the Consultant finally. Am probably a bit paranoid as my mum had a few premature labours and lost the babies.

BTW - the copious discharge I am getting is sweet smelling. Google is freaking me out saying AF is sweet smelling but is it quite common to have sweetish smell in pregnancy?

Thanks Fish - going to try and chill as it seems to have settled (sweet smell, not pressure - the pressure is there all the time :( ). Holding on for Appt on Fri...
