I've had two. They were both fine.

DS - pessary at 6 pm, slight pains around 2 am, labour really kicked in around 6 am and he was born just after 10.

DD - pessary at 10 am and she was born at 11.29 am.

Both instances it was due to my blood pressure getting too high.

Good luck - hope it all goes well!

I'm in the same boat I'm 40+5 now, no signs at all :(, i have a sweep on tuesday but because they don't induce till 40+12 here that would make my induction day sunday, so don't know if they will wait till monday or if they induce on a sunday.

I had two inductions, both at 40+10.
It involved going to ward in early evening, getting pessary that night.

DS1, went into labour and waters went at about 12 m/n, delivered naturally at 9.50am.

DS2, went into labour instantly after the pessary. Very quick, delivered naturally within about two or three hours, I think. 'Twas all a blur as he was very big, and the pressure was so intense I thought I was going to burst! Grin

I would imagine that you could be admitted on a Sunday. When I worked on a surgical ward we had lots of admissions on a Sunday.

I was induced at 40+12 and DS was born by caesarean section at 42 weeks exactly due to non progress of labour, only became 1cm dilated, waters had been gone for 29 hours. What I wish I'd known was the statistical likelihood of a vaginal delivery in my case (I later found that my Bishop's score was so low that I had a 50-50 chance of needing a cs at the outset). Basically in a round about way I'm saying ask lots of questions! I think some women have naturally longer gestational periods than others and if I had my chance again I would have put it off for a few more days.
My mum had 3 late pregnancies, all my granny's were late too (including one at 44 weeks!) So perhaps it's genetic.

thank you ladies im just nervous although my first labour started naturally at 39 wks it didnt progress so has the drip and my epudural didnt work resulting in theatre forceps etc it was very long intense and medical!

im scared induction meant I had to be.put on the drip straight away but your stories all seem pretty posotive!

iv bern offered a sweep on fri will she tell me if tge sweep looks like its likley to work or how favourable my cervix is???

Hello, I was induced with dd on a Sunday night. Pessary around 10.30, sleeping tablets and paracetemol, labour started at around 3am and dd was born at 7am. It was still very natural even though it was an induction. Good luck.

Emsgale · 08/04/2012 13:43

oh that sounds nothing like I was exspecting! I feel more relaxed!

I was induced with two of my dcs

DD1: Was sent in at 8pm for planned induction because of being 41+6 , pessary inserted at 8:45pm, started get mild pains at about 10pm, asked for gas & air at 12am was 10cms dilated by 4am & my DD was delivered at 5am.

DD2: was bought in to hospital at 8:30am for planned induction due to being 41+5, had pessary inserted at 11am, had gas & air when pains started but wasnt enough so had pethidine too(didnt like it made me halucinate!) , i had her by 12:45pm!!

pumpkinsweetie · 08/04/2012 13:52

I have had sweeps with 3 of mine, they didn't do anything & were quite uncomfortable but i was willing to try anything

pumpkinsweetie · 08/04/2012 13:53

And all 4 of my dcs were late, 14 days late, 13 days late, 10 days late & my last dc was 4 days late it must be in the genes or something Grin

What are their reasons for wanting to induce you? There are risks with induction, especially if your body is not ready yet, so it's not a given that you'd be induced just because you are past 40 weeks... It depends on the hospital policy and what their reasons for wanting to induce are. Also: you have a choice. It is within your right to refuse if you are not comfy with it. They can monitor you, baby and placenta to make sure you are doing OK instead if you would be happier with that.

Emsgale · 08/04/2012 14:13

they will induce me once iv gone 2 weeks over and are not keen to leave me much later as I have had issues with resistance in my placenta I have a appt on friday im 41 weeks the day after and they said they will give me date for induction on that day witch Im guessing will be at some point after 42 week!?!
