Why does my baby not move yet?!

I am 19 +2 and have yet to feel a single thing. No butterflies or little bubbles. Infact apart from my massive breasts (whoo hoo!!!) and a fatter stomach (more round than wobble) I do not feel pregnant in the slightest.

I had a 12 week scan and saw baby moving which was great but I am one of 5 friends pregnant, one is 3 weeks behind me and feels baby already. Getting worried now, when should I feel something?

I'm fatter than I should be to begin with but never have had a huge stomach just huge backside and thighs but still overweight round middle pre preg - could this be why?

My placenta was at the front so I didn't feel anything til about 21 weeks-ish. Then he wouldn't stop!!

peeriebear · 07/04/2012 00:16

I'm 18+4 and feeling the same! Come on little guy, give us a sign!

Izpie · 07/04/2012 00:28

My placenta was at the front which blocked the feelings of movement for well over 20 weeks. In fact the first time I felt them they were strong enough that dh felt them too.

RobinSparkles · 07/04/2012 00:29

Oh, please don't worry! I was just over 21 weeks when I felt any sign of movement, with my first baby. It was a little earlier with my second, at about 17 weeks. They say you feel it earlier with your second as you know what to expect but I have a friend who was over 20 weeks when she felt her second move.

You might well have felt some movement but dismissed it as wind because that's what it feels like at first :o.

There are many other factors to when you feel movement too eg. position of the placenta (if it's anterior it will cushion the movement so you don't feel it), position of the baby (if the baby is lying facing your back I don't suppose you would feel as much movement as you would if they are facing your front).

Congratulations on your pregnancy! :)

Try not to worry with my first it was about 22 weeks before I felt him! Saw him kicking on the 20 week scan but couldn't feel a thingBlush

KatAndKit · 07/04/2012 06:16

I was 21 weeks before I felt any movement - it's perfectly normal!
Fatness doesn't have that much to do with it as what you are feeling initially is all on the inside.

justhayley · 07/04/2012 08:44

Another one here who didn't feel anything until 21 weeks and even then I wasn't 100%, I'm also having my first and have an anteria placenta. Don't worry yet it's perfectly normal. You know your little one is moving by the scan and you will get another confirmation of this at your 20 week. I'm sure he/she will be kicking u in the rubs soon enough Smile

shushpenfold · 07/04/2012 08:46

I felt my ds at 22 weeks, but then felt the dds at about 14 weeks....it will come don't panic!

faintpinkline · 07/04/2012 08:57

Try not to worry. My placenta is to the front and I've only just started feeling movements in the last week or so (22 weeks now).

When I was sitting in triage earlier this week I heard a midwife tell someone on the phone that they don't really worry about feeling movements before 25 weeks as some babies just don't get round to it until then

signet2012 · 07/04/2012 13:11

Aw thanks. Thats reassured me!

It's great being pregnant at the same time as some friends and family but there is a downside when everyone gets you worrying!

I guess I'll be patient!

:)

My DP says I'll be moaning about it never been still/on my bladder/under my ribs before long so enjoy the peace.

Same here placenta at the front so movements felt much later. You'll be having your 20 week scan soon and you can ask where the placenta is:)

pinksomething · 07/04/2012 19:52

I was worried about this at 22 weeks with my first. I phoned the hospital and the midwife I spoke to told me to lie down quietly for a couple of hours (which I never do!) and to have a glass of ice cold drink (fill glass with ice and add water/juice). I felt her move within about 5 mins! Agree with all the other posts about anterior placenta - mine was.

MissPollysTrolleyed · 07/04/2012 19:56

I felt nothing until 22 weeks last time when my midwife was prodding my belly and said she got quite an indignant kick. I had also felt it but thought it was the previous night's curry Blush. Once I knew what I was looking for, I started feeling movements loads. It's a great feeling so enjoy it when it starts.

Shenanagins · 07/04/2012 20:00

I was around 24 weeks before i felt anything and he has never stopped moving since - he's now a year old! Everyone is different so try not to worry.

scarletforya · 07/04/2012 20:49

I was 23 weeks before I felt anything. I have an anterior placenta.

Heartbeep · 08/04/2012 08:33

I'm feeling the same I'm only 14 + 4 but it's my second pregnancy & I got fluttering with DD at 13 weeks. I've not felt anything with this baby & wish it would hurry up & start wriggling.
