Hi,

First post on here so apologies if something is not quite right in what I have done :)

I went to the Dr's today to confirm my pregnancy (5 weeks) and she said I had a heart murmur. I was told that this is common and from reading other articles online it does seem to be but just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same thing and what happened after the intial appointment?

Thank you

you usually go and see a heart specialist and they will ultrasound scan your heart to find a cause.

I have a heart murmur, SMS for both pg And again this time, I was referred for an ultra sound of my heart.

Really nothing to worry about. It's just so they are prepared and have all the necessary info for when your in labour and further in pg when you're heart will be doing overtime!

Congratulations on your pg x

Hi Spotty. Range of options but very likely to be nothing to worry about. Cardiologists would do echo and monitor during pregnancy. Very often, flow murmurs disappear after pregnancy when your heart rate and blood volume lowers. Even if it doesn't, unless it is causing you any trouble, cardiologists will monitor over a period of years by doing an echo every 6 months to 3 years depending on which valve is a bit leaky and how leaky if that makes sense. (murmurs caused by a slightly leaky valve). Hope that helps. Many congratulations on your pregnancy!

I had a heart murmur during my first pregnancy but not during the second.
Caused me no problems, I just had to have an ECG and an ultrasound on my heart to check there was no other reason than the pregnancy.
