Hiya I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have been suffering terrible headaches and migraines for about a week so bad that i cannot sleep. There is no point taking paracetamol as they dont touch my migraines but i was wondering if anyone knows if the headache sticks are ok to use in pregnancy? not sure if that will work but i need to try anything i can x

I'd ask the pharmacist? I've also had those cold forehead strips recommended to me, I'm going to go and get some this morning :(

thanks mcpopcorn for replying I'm heading into town at lunch time so will go to a pharmacy. I work within a hospital so i just went to see the midwife team and they were really unhelpful...i felt as if they were unhelpful :(

I had this too - not much you can do except suffer. I used to lie with a very cold wet tea towel over face and forehead. It does get better as the pregnancy moves along.

Not sure about the headache sticks - tried those when not pregnant and felt I must just have put toothpaste on head!

Once, with DC1, doctor suggested that part of problem was tension in muscles in neck so recommended Deep Heat rubbed in. Helped slightly - maybe to do with massage?

I had terrible migraines from 13 weeks for a few weeks in the end the gp told me to take co codamol for the pain, cyclizine for the nausea and vomiting (helped but made me feel dizzy and like i wasnt really here-very odd sensation), from 14 weeks he said i could take nurofen which i tried to avoid but had to a couple of times as pain was so severe (nurofen not really allowed in pg but gp said it was ok after 14 weeks and before 28 weeks as a last resort).

I used the forehead stick and the cool patches on forehead and back of neck and spent majority of my time in a dark room.

It was all quite horrible but passed after a few weeks and (touch wood) have not had a migraine since only headaches but not particularly severe.

hope you feel better soon.
