Possibly stupid question about how to calculate weeks

Hi all

So, I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile after nearly a year ttcing.

I've been reading various websites which say things like "at 6 weeks pregnant your baby is X size" or "at 8 weeks pregnant you may notice the following symptoms".

But how do they calculate how many weeks pregnant a woman is? Is it from the date of your last period or the date of ovulation.

My last period was 4 weeks ago and I ovulated 2 weeks ago. So, am I 4 weeks pregnant or 2 weeks pregnant?

Confused

thank you!

Congratulations Smile. Pregnancy is always counted from the first day of your last period - so you are 4 weeks pregnant.

You are 4 weeks pregnant Smile

This website is really good: www.pregnancy.org/user/register your LMP date and it works out for you how far along you are and what's happening is you go on pregancy calender.

Congrats! x

Thank you! somehow all my googling failed to find a site which said this clearly.

seems bizarre that I can be 4 weeks pg when I know I didn't ovulate till 2 weeks ago... but there you go! I guess they have to count from somewhere.

I think in America they count from conception which confuses people. I may be wrong but I have come to that conclusion when talking to people about gestations of prem babies

you could be right bronze- on the website i linked to, which is american, it will say 12 weeks pregnant (10weeks gestation)

I feel less daft for getting confused now!
