I'm 38+4 and my right arm is killing me today ;(

I can't lift it above my head and I nearly just got stuck in the bath, I felt like I'd slept on it funny last night, even saw the midwife this morning but it wasnt bothering me much then, It's really hurting now though like a big ache it's horrible. Ive just looked up carpel tunnel but that appears to only effect your hand and this is my upper arm.

Any ideas? I tried the bath to sooth my muscles but it's just as bad so I think mabye trapped nerve or something

Or mabye it's connected to my pregnancy?

I will just moan all night and see how I feel tomorrow, poor oh he only finished work at 4 and he's had half an hour of it already

I get a pain that starts in the top of my arm and eventually spreads down to the wrist and both NHS Direct and the midwife have diagnosed this as carpal tunnel.

Best solutions for me are to take a paracetamol (if you are in pain I genuinely think it's worth taking and I find one tablet rather than my usual two when not pregnant does the trick). Then it's good to try to elevate the wrist to drain the fluid. You can either get a specific wrist support/bandage thingy but I find laying the bottom half of my arm relatively flat and then cupping my hand over a pair of rolled-up socks works perfectly.

Just checking, no chest pain at all?

Probably is just muscular...sympathies xx

Flightty · 02/04/2012 18:17

or yes trapped nerve

See if you can get anything prescribed, it's horrible being in pain...maybe out of hours could give you something.

No chest pain but I've felt a bit panicky a couple of times, think my body has just had enough now because I'm near the end!

I'll try a couple of paracetamol and phone the midwife tomorrow if no better, it's amazing how many things in your body pregnancy effects!

I'd ring your GP if you are concerned. The midwife will not be able to help in this instance. If the GP thinks it is pregnancy related, they can refer you to the midwives.

For what its worth, sometimes I get this. It is usually due to lifting, not always heavy things either, or because I slept on it. Usually settles down in a few days.

I had this in both of my arms the day after I moved some heavy things. I found resting them higher than waist level but out straight helped, as did googling the acupressure points for carpal tunnel and holding these.
