Drop side cots

Quick question:

I'm 5'3", expecting DC1, and thought a drop-side cot (or cotbed) would be a good idea. However, there aren't that many around - far more are fixed sides. And am I right in thinking the drop-side only works when the mattress is in the lowest position?

So, the question is, how important do you think it is to have a drop-side?

Thanks.

My DS is now 1 and we have the Henley from babies r us. It's fantastic, although stupidly once the mattress is on the lowest setting the sides don't drop! DS is 98th centile so he's very tall, we had to put it to lowest setting when he was around 9 months and will soon be converting to the bed rather than cot, so only a few months of it being a bit irritating. There's no way I would have gone for a cot without drop sides though!

Major new talking point moms and dads i have just seen the new cot that a friend of a friend has designed and it will answer all our parenting needs. Its amazing, modern, contemporary and has both sides droppping down. It also has clear perspex sides all over so you can see the little one at all times. It answers all your questions and ticks all the boxes.

So any expecting parent should wait for this amazing new innovative cot to be released.............I cant.
