Shooting pain

Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice... Yesterday and today I've been getting some really sudden shooting pains starting an inch or so above belly button and shooting up towards my chest - it goes up in a line right in the middle of my torso.

It's not excruciatingly painful, just 'shocking' - it's very sudden and feels almost like a crackling electric shock (or at least what I'd imagine one to be like!)

Any ideas? Should I be worried? TIA x

Ooh, how strange. Afraid I haven't had anything like that but how far along are you? Do you feel ok other than the odd pains? I am all for calling the midwife if in doubt ... I had a wobble a couple of weeks ago which turned out to have been me being daft and a neurotic first timer but the MW was very understanding and really put my mind at ease.

Hope you are feeling ok x

Thanks Elsathelion. I'm 21+5 and it's my first too.

My midwife is awful so can't envisage ever calling her as she doesn't seem to take me seriously or listen at the best of times!

I have had quite a few other twinges today and yesterday, but lower down and of the sort that I'd normally put down to round ligament pains, but don't think there are round ligaments so high up and in the center as this shock type pain, and also it's a completely different sort of pain. So confused. I know I should just bite the bullet and call midwife but I know she'll just be really dismissive and it will upset me because I just don't trust her opinion. I feel like there's nothing I could tell her that she wouldn't respond 'it's nothing' to - obviously I hope it IS nothing, but 'it's nothing and here's why...' would be so much more reassuring... x

FWIW, I had really odd sensations around 21/22 weeks and went for a private scan because I was so worried, the sonographer said it was because the baby is just big enough by then to bounce on the cervix which can cause really odd feelings all over the place.

I hear you about the MW, my community MW is beyond crap so when I called up, I called the hospital and got through to a duty MW in the maternal assessment unit. Can you do the same?

It might also be braxton hicks but i don't think they should be so strong that early on. Are they regular? How many have you had today?

Sorry I can't be more illuminating...

Can braxton hicks happen that high? And do they feel like shocks? I have no idea so hadn't even occurred to me...

Had the pain maybe 7 or 8 times last night and then about the same so far today. Sometimes quite spread out - like I've had most of today without but a couple first thing this morning and several in a cluster this afternoon. So confused... Think I'd be quite pleased if it was braxton hicks - might go and look up if it could be that...

Thanks again. x

I don't know if braxtons can feel like shocks as I think they feel different for different women. I just thought it might be worth asking as I have had some that feel pretty strange!

Hope you find out what is going on!

X
