Woke up with one swollen foot @ 21 weeks - normal pg swelling?

Title says it all. Bit confused as you'd expect to have swelling at the end of the day surely, not after being in bed for 10 hours.

Just wondered if anyone else has had swelling this early and whether it's anythingto be worried about. I had an appointment at the antenatal clinic yesterday and had my blood pressure taken and urine tested and all fine apparently - surely not preeclampsia then unless it can develop v.fast!

Could it be the heat? I had similar when I was pregnant last year as the weather got warmer
Ring Delivery suite and ask them, it's always worth checking these things out

Hi Snowbarder,

Is it just your foot, or ankle/leg as well?

Frontpaw · 28/03/2012 15:12

Could it be a reaction to a bite? Have you been walking in grass or wearing sandals?

Either way, call your surgery and tell them that you are pregnant and have this symptom. The doctor/nurse will speak to you at least. I am not, alas, Frontpaw MD so not qualified to give out medical advice (beyond 'call your doctor!').

Sorry to drip feed. I rang this morning and they said to elevate the leg for a couple of hours. The swelling has reduced but not gone away entirely. They want me to go in tomorrow if I wake up with sausage trotters again (not the medical term!)

It is my foot and also my ankle area.

I'm worried as it appears to be 'pitting' (leaving a print when I push on it with a finger). An added potential complication is that I had my pelvic lymph nodes removed during a cancer op a couple of years ago so now worrying that pregnancy could be triggering lymphadema.

Oh shit, I don't want an elephant leg Sad

If it was your leg, then i would say go to the docs asap, as there can be issues with blood clots if you have just one leg swollen and painful.

But to me (not a medic) it sounds like it is some form of water retention if it leaves a mark when you press on your foot.

Did you ring the midwife and tell her that you had your lymph nodes removed? Just so they know the full picture IYSWIM.

Thanks failsafe. I did this morning. I've been elevating it since. It looks a bit better but not gone entirely and still pitting. V.worried about lymphadema now. Probably going to hosp tomorrow.

Give them a ring back and ask again, if you are concerned then you need to have your mind put at rest
