Fat fingers all of a sudden (35+5)

It was all going so well, this week, it's all going on! This morning for the first time my hands are hugely swollen. Big fat, sore, red fingers. Thought my rings would lacerate my fingers! They've calmed a little this evening but still puffy and a bit sore.

I've always had very low blood pressure which has been the case throughout the pregnancy too.

Do I need to raise this with the midwife earlier than next Thursday? I'm not sure if there is any urgency in oedema like this.

You need to get your blood pressure checked as soon as possible. Call your midwife immediately.

SparkyMcSparrow · 26/03/2012 21:02

yes phone the midwife and get checked just to be on the safe side.

I had this and had to be kept a close eye on because of my blood pressure.

FoofFighter · 26/03/2012 21:42

Yes I think this warrants a call to the midwife, could be a sign of Pre-eclampsia - what are your arrangements for out of hours calls? If you aren't sure, just call the midwives in the hospital.
Please don't wait to be seen.

HamblesHandbag · 26/03/2012 21:45

yep , phone the ward now.

katiegolightly · 26/03/2012 21:46

Thanks everyone. Ok I will call the midwife first thing, fortunately I also have to see the obs at the hospital in the morning anyway about today's breech diagnosis, so I have plenty to quiz them about tomorrow. Thanks for the advice, ladies.

As the others said get checked out. May be nothing but low BP can change really suddenly so worth checking with the midwife (mine went from low to sky high) then back to low pretty much as soon as I delivered. My feet looked like pigs trotters.

They should check your urine and your blood pressure, as changes there are the other two signs of pre-eclampsia. You can just swell up anyhow (coming under the category of 'weird things your body does in pregnancy'h and it may prove to be nothing to worry about at all. But for you peace of mind, I would suggest you seek a schedule of more frequent checks, even if the other indicators are normal at the moment.

How are you this morning?

katiegolightly · 27/03/2012 14:23

Hi confuzed, thanks for asking! All good as it seems. Swelling gone down today and they took my blood pressure and still all good. I was told to not go on too many lovely long walks (as I did yesterday) which apparently doesn't help matters. So much for gentle exercise and fresh air & sunshine. Feet up in the garden all the way now!

:)

was probably just overexertion combined with the heat then but it's always better to check and be safe than sorry

My hands swelled up on Sunday after a long walk in the sunshine ( I'm 31 weeks ). I was worried cos have read about it being a sign of pre eclampsia but they went down after I'd had a bit of a rest! Body telling me to slow down a bit in this unseasonally warm weather I think.
