Anyone know if any cold/flu remedies are safe to take when pg?

Have got the most bloody awful cold and cough plus really sore throat. So far have been sticking to paracetamol plus hot honey and lemon but would really really like to take something else for sore throat especially. If I know i can suck tunes/lockets etc I'll crawl down to the shops to get them tomorrow but can't bear the thought of getting there and finding a big 'do not take while pregnant' notice on them.

thanks

Think you can have lockets - well I did anyway - think it says its ok on side.

If you get blocked up - try Olbas oil on a tissue thats fine too.

you can take cocodamol, it contains paracetamol and codein. it can make you constipated though so i'd drink lots of water and eat loads of weetabix and fruit whilst on them.

All that stuff that you can buy in the newsagents is fine.

I took ordinary Sudafed. I had a sinus infection, however, and had to go on antibiotics. It was BAD. And steaming did nothing.

GDG · 04/02/2006 12:14

You should not take Sudafed - paracetamol is fine but don't take anything with pseudoephedrine in.

expatinscotland · 04/02/2006 15:24

The ordinary Sudafed doesn't have psuedoephedrine it in. That's why my GP told me to take it. And has some other crap that doesn't work for s*it. Hydrochloride or something.

Someone told me buttercup syrup is ok.

Anyone know if this is the case?

TheBlonde · 10/02/2007 16:08

Pharmacist last week said no to the buttercup for me

LupinsBigLump · 10/02/2007 19:56

In the USA, pseudofed and benadryl are both acceptable during pregnancy. Not sure why this difference exists. Having said that, I suffer from terrible allergies and haven't taken either since I got pregnant. Why? because I'm here in London and the books say no. Even tho I'm American.

I haven't been able to work that one out yet!
