I cannot believe I cannot work this out!
The online calculators are making me even more confused!
Right first day of my last period was the 28th Feb but my cycle lengths vary! My last two were 42 and 39 days. I think by knowing roughly when I ovulated ish my last cycle was 36 days but as it never came I don't know!

I'm due in November but how will the midwife work out when I'm due to have my first scan which I know for the nuchal fold needs to be between 11 and 13 weeks.

Oh help! My brain hurts I blame this entirely on looking after two little ones and early pregnancy worries!

Thank you.

P.s I'm booked in to see the midwife next week as I th

As I thought I was 8 weeks going from the first day of my last period.

28th Feb? Do you mean Jan?

ItWasThePenguins · 25/03/2012 20:18

Well it's 40 weeks from last period, plus x amount of days for the lenght of your cycle over 28 days.

But they'll send you for a scan and then date it on screen.

PestoPenguin · 25/03/2012 20:20

When did you ovulate? If you can estimate that fairly accurately, then make that day 'day 14' of your cycle and put the day 1 equivalent into one of the online calculators.

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 25/03/2012 20:21

Yes I mean 28th January sorry!

Ovulated either 17th or 21st. Will the midwife take any notice of this?

I'm not so worried about a due date as such just when they will scan me!

Well some PCT's scan at 10 weeks, some 13 weeks.
Just go to docs, get referral to midwife and see what happens, don't panic, it'll be fine. =)

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 25/03/2012 20:26

Ok to simplify my garbled posts:
Last day first period 28th Jan
Ovulated 17th or 21st Feb
36-40 day cycle

How many weeks am I?

Thank you for your patience, I normally have full brain function!

FatimaLovesBread · 25/03/2012 20:31

I'd hazard a guess at seven weeks?

ItWasThePenguins · 25/03/2012 20:35

8 weeks I think.

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 25/03/2012 20:39

Brilliant that's sort of what I thought I was 7-8 weeks.
Thank you for sticking with me!

If you ovulated on the 17th, you're 7 and a bit weeks give or take a few days for implantation and other small factors. They'll calculate roughly from the date of your last period/cycle length and send you for a scan where they'll measure the baby and work it out more accurately. Just tell the mw all you know, stress when you think you ovulated and if you're at all concerned they're not taking that into account, ask them to ensure they scan early enough not to miss the window for the nuchal measurement.

Thank you SOH :)

Hijack away issimma it's hard to work out when your cycles are wonky!

They'll probably assume your period started around 14 days before you swi as that's the average between period starting and ovulation. You could have conceived, however, up to 5 days (maybe even slightly more) after the day you swi. They'll find out at the scan where you are though.

PestoPenguin · 25/03/2012 21:12

I'd say you're 6-7 weeks, due 9th of Nov or up to around a week after that.

Congratulations Smile!

ProlificYoungGentlemenBreeder · 25/03/2012 21:17

Thank you pestopenguin you are the second person to congratulate me! I'm petrified!

I found my midwife wouldn't listen and went with date of period. I have long cycles and just added two weeks onto my ovulation date. This was confirmed at my scan. Try not to worry and ignore your midwife if she doesn't listen

KatAndKit · 26/03/2012 09:38

Blacktea is probably right, until you have had a scan they are only interested in your last period.
You should get your scan around 12-13 weeks from your last period. However, since you know you did not ovulate on cd14, don't panic when the scan only shows you are 11 weeks. 11+0 is still ok for the nuchal scan but if you are any less than that you'd have to go back for rescanning a week or two later.

PestoPenguin · 26/03/2012 14:10

It depends on your midwife. I have long cycles too, but round here they will adjust your EDD by LMP based on cycle length. Even that is inaccurate, as ovulation is not always 14 days before your next period (in my case it's more like 10 days from ovulation to period).

It might seem trivial at this stage if you're out by a few days, but it can be really important at the end, especially if they think you are due sooner than you really are. Many hospitals have policies to strongly recommend induction at a certain number of days after your due date, so a day or two can really make a big difference, especially if like the majority of first-timers your baby is not born until after your EDD.

Make sure you agree with whatever they put down on your notes as your 'agreed due date', as if not it is worth arguing now rather than leaving it until november Smile.

Good luck with your midwife and scan.
