I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my first child & me & my partner have been arguing about how much the baby essentials are going to cost. The figure in his head is much lower than I think is realistic.
How much did you initially spend getting everything you needed for your baby?

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I felt all inspired & popped onto ebay only to pick up a £50 sling for a tenner!
And I'd never heard of the preloved site so that'll be my next stop!

Thanks for the link ItWasThePenguins but I'd feel bad if I went for that offer, moneys not a huge problem, its just we don't want to spend more than necessary. I'd rather see such a kind offer go to someone who needs it more.

Thanks again everyone!! x

Big purchases for me so far below.

This is a lot to spend but I justify it as it will (hopefully) be used again in the next few years. I have also made a promise to myself to pay full price for nothing. I decide what I want, shop around, price match and negotiate. Managed to get a great price all in on the Stokke from putting in a bit of research and calling a few companies.

Guess the next big expense is the car seat - not one to skimp on though!

Stokke Xplory (with footmuff, carrycot, parasol, etc) - £850
Crib - £169
Change Table - £199
Change Mat - £19
Reusable Bum Genius Nappies and Cheeky wipes (with bin, etc) - £300
Cot - free from friend

Also should mention that due to a tear in a disc in my lower back from an accident, things I've chosen are for height to minimise strain so this naturally seems to mean less options and more expensive at that. Our biggest 'baby' purchase will be a 4x4 as I ideally want to be able to lift my baby in and out of the car without bending over. Will trade in my car to do this though!

I'm definitely learning the art of shopping around!
I've managed to find the cot I want £100 cheaper and the travel system £189 cheaper, its amazing how much it all varies!

I've also just sold my beloved Smart car and will be buying a cheaper car with 4 seats which should give me about £600 to spend on other things, yay!

Sorry to crash thread but wanted to ask naisy where did you get your good deal on the Stokke from? Best deal I have seen is 725 in MOthercare but that is without carrycot or any extras. Thanks!
