Sorry for the pun, but I had to get up 6 times last night to pee. Our bathroom is downstairs as well so it's even more of a pain. Is it going to be like this for the whole pregnancy?!

when you do go for a pee, when you finish lean forward. that helps to empty your bladder so hopefully it will cut out the nighttime trips

Thechick · 25/03/2012 14:50

How far along are you? My average is about 3 times a night but have had a couple of nights when it's been 5 times. I'm only 5 weeks. I cannot image what it's going to be like when I have an actual baby pressing on my bladder!!

applecrumple · 25/03/2012 15:17

I'm just coming into my 13th week. It doesn't seem to be too bad during the day, maybe the lying down is putting pressure on my bladder! Congrats on your preg - welcome to the world of massive boobs & a huge appetite!

Err... yes, it might be Wink

We moved into a new house when I was 32w with the bathroom downstairs. I just admitted defeat and had a bucket in the spare room! Sounds awful, I know, but I reckoned a few weeks with slightly less dignity Blush was better than going up and down the stairs 6 times a night, and lets face it, if you aren't that awake or your stairs are anything like mine (sooo steep!) then its just an absolute pain and you might even stumble a little.

So my advice is just give in and do whatever is most practical!

ardenbird · 25/03/2012 19:02

Our bathroom is also downstairs. I ended up spending a good month sleeping on the couch so I could be closer to it right before I went off on mat leave. I was so tired I was scared I'd fall down the stairs in the middle of the night! Now I'm off, and have moved back upstairs to sleep as I'm more rested and more stable.

applecrumple · 25/03/2012 19:28

Yeah the whole stairs thing freaks me out too - I'm having to slid down on my bum cos I don't trust myself not to fall down! I m not sure about the bucket thing, but may just become desperate sooner or later!

If it's any comfort, I was like that at 13 weeks but not getting up at all now at 31. Not true for everyone, of course...

TheDetective · 25/03/2012 19:40

Well, some nights I wake up for a wee, others - like last night, I sleep right through. Even if it was 14 hours I think it depends. Every day seems different to me!

BellaCB · 25/03/2012 20:49

tilda, so happy to hear someone else did that! I felt an absolute freak peeing in a bucket but it was just so much easier!

apple - don't knock it Grin Bit of disinfectant and water in the bucket, bit of loo roll by the side... I even had a packet of biscuits in there for the night time munchies! But seriously, as ardenbird says, if you are that tired then there is a risk that you could stumble on the stairs, so being on the same floor (whether its a bucket or sleeping downstairs) is safer

RandomMess · 25/03/2012 20:51

In early pregnancy it's hormones then at the end it's lack of space - so hopefully a few months respite in the middle!

FutureNannyOgg · 25/03/2012 21:09

It does get easier when the baby lifts out of your pelvis in the 2nd trimester.

applecrumple · 26/03/2012 18:45

I just have 1 question Bella, how the hell did you balance on a bucket?!

OP posts:
BellaCB · 26/03/2012 19:23

Grin I just kind of squatted over it! To be honest, though, I spent the same time sleeping on an inflatable mattress of the floor and that was so challenging that anything else faded in comparison!

applecrumple · 27/03/2012 19:13

Inflatable mattress while pregnant! Bloody hell, you have my deepest sympathy!

Yeah - the moral of that story is don't move from furnished rented to a new house when 32 weeks pregnant!
