Think I've got the flu, should I call my MW?

I'm 12wks with DC2.

I started getting what I thought was a cold on Monday and it quickly evolved in feeling like I was coughing barbed wire with a nose completely blocked. I didn't take much notice, after all it was just a cold but yesterday my temperature shot up to 39.5 C, I literally drenched the bed last night, I have a constant headache and this morning I couldn't stand up for more than 2 min without fainting.

I'm obviously ill but I don't want to bother the MW if it's just going to go in a couple of days on the other hand, of course, I don't want the baby to suffer.

Sounds like what I've got! (luckily I've not had a temp) Def call the MW, I called mine and she gave me a friendly telling off for going to work and packed me off to the GP's. I've now got antibiotics for a chest infection. Don't think there's much you can do, sure baby won't suffer but a temp is not great when your preg.

Don't forget that's part of the thing MW are there for. Mine was really helpful x

Yes def go to the GP, I had a chest infection a while ago and she was concerned about pneumonia so gave antibiotics before it progressed.
Hope you feel better soon x

Call your gp if youre concerned, flu isnt pregnancy related thus doesnt need a midwife. Lots of rest and fluids too.

Thanks everyone and you're right meconium the flu isn't pregnancy related, why would I call my MW? Honestly, the fever is preventing me from thinking straight.

I spent all day in bed - thank God DS was at nursery! I got up when he got back to do his bath and all but I'm back in bed now as I was starting to feel sick and faint. I did have a really big nap this morning and doing nothing while staying warm was definitely a good idea.

sparkle hope you feel better soon.

please do phone the doctor, having a fever of over 38C is dangerous for the baby and it must be brought under control.

have you been taking paracetamol? if not, start -- it will at least lower the fever a little bit in the interim.

hope you feel better soon.

I would defo call the MW. I had my flu jab at St Georges on Monday and the midwife said there were currently 3 pregnant women in intensive care with flu. Better to be safe x
