Pregnancy/breastfeeding cushion

Hey, I'm 12wks with DC2 so it's probably a bit early to think about it but my mind is going into overdrive...

I'm wondering if you could recommend a cushion that can be used as sleeping aid during the later stages of pregnancy and also to breastfeed.

I borrowed one from a friend with DS (gave it back and she leaves abroad), it was huge and quite squishy, which was exactly what I was after. However, I didn't find it helped much, especially with breastfeeding. It seems to be too big and too squishy yet I've seen other "basic" ones, which look tiny and hard to me, being used a lot and so I'm wondering if I shouldn't just trust that.

What did you use, did you like it and why?

Thanks

I just used an ordinary pillow both for sleeping with and for feeding. Worked fine.

Not sure about the breastfeeding bit as i am only 27 weeks but I have a dream geeni. I got it for Christmas when I was 16 weeks pregnant and at the moment it is my most precious possession I own, I love it so much as it makes sleeping so comfy. Went away for a week abroad when I was 20 weeks and dh said no way I could take it on the plane. I missed it soooo much I will never be without again while pregnant!

another reccomendation for the dreamgenie one - really helped my back ache to sleep with, great to use as a back prop if you're sitting up and I can already see it being a big help with comfy breastfeeding. Also hoping I'll remember to take it into hospital for the birth! worth every penny Grin

Thanks, the Dream Genie looks quite good and not too expensive :)

I bought a dream genie following lots of good reviews on here, but I'm really disappointed with it TBH. I found it isn't substantial enough to give good support and the two pillows are too far apart to properly wedge you in. Persevered with it for a good while, but have now given up in favour of just lots of normal pillows!

I've got a Theraline pillow and I love it. I use it to prop me up to read in bed then when I go to sleep I rest my leg on it. I'm normally a tummy sleeper and by leaning my leg over it it's as close as I can get to still sleeping on my front!

Not used it for breastfeeding yet but it's really long so should be quite easy to use it in various ways when feeding.

I bought a widgey which is kind of a horse shoe shape pillow. It was recommended by a friend who swore by it. She used it for sleeping, breast feeding and to support baby as she started sitting up. Haven't tried it yet but does seem nice & firm -some are too squishy! You can also replace the covers on them.

I have a DreamGenii and I love it, but I tend to use it "backwards" with the long part down my back and the little pin mow under my belly. Am 28 weeks an I lurve it.

tipp2chicago · 22/03/2012 21:01

"pin mow" was supposed to be pillow... Stupid autocorrect.

I got an L shaped sausage type pillow from Argos when DS was born 5 years ago. It was really cheap and saw me through breast feeding two babies. It was quite squishy, but I loved it.

I got a mybreastfriend on amazon for ds2 after reading some great comments about it on here. It was probably the most useful baby item I have ever bought and definitely helped me succeed with Breastfeeding 2nd time round. In fact I can't recommend it enough. It was great.

dukeofpork · 22/03/2012 21:18

Worth doing a bit of research cos with ds1 I had a cheap mother care v-shaped pillow and it was no help whatsoever.

susiegrapevine · 22/03/2012 21:47

I have the dreamgenii and used it for my 1st pregnancy using it again for this one! Is fab! Love it tho I didn't use it for breast feeding cos I did biological nurturing so no use for it but really would not be without for pregnancy and baby was always the right way up throughout and I swear it was the pillow!
