I just want to know if it's ok? I have my scan in 2 weeks so I was going to ask then, but I'd like to do something sooner. Does anyone know if it's best to wait till later in pregnancy or not to do it at all? And is it all types? I'd like to lighten it a bit back to my natural colour, but I'm not sure about bleach.

Ypu cant use ammonia based products while pregnant.

I have never found any evidence to support claims that you can't dye your hair when pregnant.

I sure I read that there is nothing wrong with dyeing your hair but during pg you can be more sensitive to the chemicals so you have to be extraregarding skin tests beforehand. I've always done it while pg.

Thanks, I know it's a very low risk, but I miscarried in May (strangly 1 week after having my hair dyed) But I've always dyed my hair, so it needs constantly maintaining. I might wait another couple of weeks and get past 13 weeks.

strike1 I asked my hairdresser about it last time I visited she said there is no problem they just have to watch the colour as with bleach occasionally it can go a different colour( pinky )although not commonly.

She did say about cutting too, I have mine thinned out and she said not to have it thinned out cos pg makes you lose more hair than normal and can make your hair even thinner if thin by cutting it.

FirstNikki · 03/02/2006 14:35

oh p.s. she did say to do it less frequently through pg though

Nbg · 03/02/2006 14:40

I'm having mine done on Tuesday.

I can let you know

I have spoke to my midwife and hairdresser about it and they said it's fine. I have been warned the colour may not take as well as normal.

Also if you are takin iron supplements that can make the hair more porus.

aprilgirl · 03/02/2006 15:01

my hairdresser says there is no problem with using colour on your hair, the only thing is that you hair might not respond as normal to the colour and scalp might be more sensitive, wouldnt harm your baby just your hair if it goes wrong , im due there monday and called today to find out

SHHHH · 03/02/2006 15:10

tbh I didn't want to risk it so I didn't go near hair dye until I had finsihed bf dd.
