Hello, I'm new to Mumsnet but love all the support and advice you all give each other!
I've got my first scan coming up next week (will be 13+3 by then) and I'm really scared. I've only ever heard bad things from 'friends' who say unheplful things like, "there might be nothing there" or what problems they've encountered. I'm now terrified. I think if there was nothing there, I'd be gutted - is it common? I guess its normal to worry.... But any friendly words of advice or encouragement would be nice coz I'm really low!

I think the standard first question to the sonographer is always "is there anything there?" cos it's hard to believe till you see it in front of you! and I'm sure that statistically there must be far far more happy, successful scans than sad ones - so look on the bright side!
BTW standard 2nd question (nervously)"Is there only one?"

bunnygirl, you will be fine I am sure go looking forward to seeing your baby on the screen. Occasionally yes there are complications but the scan process is fine, harmless and once you see it for yourself I am sure you will be much happier try not to listen to the negative comments and remain positive. best of luck with your pg

Hey Bunnygirl come and join us on the Due August 2006 antenatal thread.

There are a few of us on there who have had our first scans and some that are eagerly awaiting theirs.

Is this your first baby?
It's funny how people tell you horror stories about pregnancy and birth as soon as you find out.
I'm sure everything will be fine.

Heres a link for the antenatal thread. You'll find lots of support on there.

THank you for all your messages!! I've been away (with work.. )since last week and the scan's been on my mind so it was nice to come back to such support.
I'm going to join the Due in August thread - thanks for that Nbg, it'll be really nice to talk to other August mums-to-be. This is my first so its all a bit scary but exciting too. Am feeling much more positive about the scan now.
Thank you again! xxx
