no weight gain at 19 weeks?

I am 19 weeks today and have just weighed myself to realise I am the same weight as I was at my booking in appointment 10 weeks ago (about 2kgs over normal weight)! I have a very small bump and have been feeling for movements in bed every night but what I am feeling seems so slight and irregular I'm not sure if it's just my tummy...

First pregnancy bump was small too, but thinking I am smaller and I certainly gained more weight last time. I may be more active this time with a toddler to look after, and I could have just been bloated and overeating at the booking in due to morning sickness!! Primarily though I am concerned about baby's growth.

Anyway, I'm not having scan until 20+6 and next midwife appointment is at 23 weeks. Haven't had chance to listen to heartbeat yet, but all seemed fine and lots of movement at 12 week scan.

Anyone else not gained much weight like this? I am not even trying to keep slim! Guess I am just looking for some reassurance from your experiences.... Would be much appreciated :)

Hi, there was a similar thread to this a few weeks ago, but I can't find it now.

I spoke to my MW as I'm having the same 'issue' and she said it was okay as long as you're in the normal range of BMI and if you weren't really skinny/or really fat to start with.

I've had hyperemesis this pregnancy and haven't put on any weight - although when pregnant with DS I had put on weight by this stage (18 weeks) and I didn't have hyperemesis.

If you can feel the baby move and you can see any sort of a bump I'd guess you're doing alright.

I think once you see the next scan and hear the baby's heartbeat then your mind will be a bit more at ease.

I weighed at about 25 weeks (might do it again soon too, just out of curiousity) and I hadnt put on any weight at all. I also have a toddler to run around after, and was quite sick early on (though not full blown hyperemesis)

I'm now 37+5 and baby is measuring quite big :)

It's maybe not relevant because I started out with a high BMI but I measure my weight daily on Wii fit because I was trying to lose weight before becoming pregnant.

Prior to getting pregnant: 16st 10lbs (briefly)
At booking in: 17st 4lbs (hadn't eaten healthily in run up to Christmas + booking in was Dec 27th really full after stuffing myself at Christmas and being constipated)
Lowest: 16 st 6lbs (16 weeks in early Feb after weeks of eating better and quite a bit of all-day sickness)
Now: 16st 11lbs (21 weeks, but haven't been eating as healthily)

So I weigh less than at booking in, but not the lowest I've been during pregnancy. Growth and movement of baby seemed fine at 20 week scan. I've noticed that I've 'lost weight' i.e. I look slimmer in the face and lower belly, my wedding ring is looser etc whilst my baby bump has been growing, so I think I have been putting on baby weight, but losing weight from elsewhere IYSWIM?

I intend to eat more healthily and get more gentle exercise in over the next few months. I think this might cause me to either lose a small amount of weight briefly, or stay about the same weight for a while before gaining weight as baby grows. I'm not concerned about this because I'm not doing anything drastic, I'm sticking to what I was doing before getting pregnant, i.e. smaller portions, less unhealthy snacks, moving more etc. and its about being healthy, not maintaining any particular weight.

As always, if you are worried then speak to your Midwife.

I lost weight and dropped a dress size with my second pregnancy. I ate like a pig an was sofa bound with SPD too.

No rhyme or reason to it.

I piled loads of weight on with DCs 1-3 but with DC4 I lost weight. I actually weighed 5lb less at my 38 week check up than at my booking in appt and still (at 41 weeks) gave birth to a bouncing 10lb baby!

Each pregnancy is different and it is not uncommon to lose weight but if you're worried, give your MW a quick call and see if she can see you a bit earlier :)

Thanks all for the reassuring comments! Interesting to hear different experiences. I guess I must just stop comparing to last time... Have all these expectations and when they're different I panic Hmm Looked a little online and found a weight calculator providing estimates by week. Estimate is 3-5kgs for my BMI at 19 weeks, so I guess overall at 2kgs from pre-pregnancy weight I am not too far behind... and needles yes, I think the scan will definitely help!

I was the same as you - gained no weight at that stage of pregnancy. I only put weight on in the last trimester and then only an extra half a stone. I put it down to not drinking. Now I have had my lovely and completely healthy little girl, I am a stone lighter compared to pre-pregnancy. Imagine if I had thought to cut out alcohol, I could have lost that stone years ago :)

Hi,
Let me refresh the topic ;)

I'm 19 weeks today, have gained maybe 0.5-1 kg (1-2 lb) since I got pregnant, and I'm underweight (always been tho). I think I'm eating well, a few times a day, never skipping breakfast and always with snacks in between (usually fruit, sometimes a muesli or choc bar or yoghurt), lunch and some dinner too.
I have a bit of a bump, not as big as my friend who's 2 weeks behind me but she's bigger than me. But fortunately, a scan and MW appt in a week so should know more!
