Double dose of Folic Acid is overweight?

My MW has instructed me to take an extra folic acid each day due to my BMI being 36. Have read lots on pregnancy over the last few weeks and never seen this mentioned though.

Has anyone else been told to do this? Does it mean that I should just take double pregnacare or will that OD me on other vitamins?

I read this somewhere & asked my midwife today but she said no, just stick to 400mg. Confusing!

ps my bmi is the same as yours

I wouldn't take double pregnacare, if I were you I would take one pregnacare plus one folic acid pill. Cheaper, and you don't have to worry about having too much of the other stuff.

I haven't been told to do it, I expect bmi 35 is the cut off or something. Although I do know some people get given a prescription dose of FA, which is ten times the dose that the rest of us are told to take. So taking double is not a big deal to worry about I wouldn't say.

I wasnt told it, but was written in my nhs literature that they gave me.

Your body doesn't store excess anyway, so taking two won't do any harm, if your body doesn't need that much then you'll pee it out.

I was told to take 5mg which is much higher dose than pregnacare. Made it difficult for me to take vitimin d. Some days I took pregnacare and folic acid. Other days lower dose vitimin d and folic acid.

Yeah, I was prescribed 5mg folic acid due to a high BMI. They were teeny tiny and easy to take alongside Pregnacare.

Was also prescribed calcium / vitamin d3 tablets too which I had to chew (they were vile and it turns out I didn't need since I was taking Pregnacare already Angry).

Ah thank you for the reassurances. Yes anything will look small compared to that bloody Pregnacare monster tablet!!

I wasn't told to take a higher dose of folic acid and my BMI was raised.

I did have to take 5mg of it with DD1 (and my BMI was normal then), but that was due to taking Epilim at the time. With DD2 I also took 5mg for a short time, due to taking Lamotrogine.

I didn't realise that folic acid was affected by weight, though I guess it makes sense
