Pregnant on the mirena coil?

Firstly, happy mothers day to all the ladies on here! Thanks

Secondly...am slightly paranoid after a week of feeling incredibly nauseous (but not actually throwing up) - it's been coming in waves every day, and only stops if I eat a sweet/something small. I don't know if I'm overreacting as I'm on the mirena coil and my last period only ended just over a week ago (although they're all out of sync anyway since I had the coil fitted in December, my last one was light and 14 days long), but this doesn't feel like a sick bug...I have no way of knowing what to look out for as I've never been pregnant before, would it be normal for morning sickness to happen so early? & has anyone else on here fallen pregnant with the mirena?

I know there are some threads on here about this already but they're a couple of years old and I would really appreciate some up-to-date advice! Thank you xx

Hi there, it is possible to get pregnant with a coil fitted, although I don't know of anyone who has. I had one and would sometimes go months without a period so worried a LOT that I was, but I'm afraid the only way to be sure is to do a test. Nausea can be caused by so many different things that I wouldn't unduly panic yourself and remember if you miss your next period of want to be sure one way or the other Tesco's own pregnancy tests are just as reliable as branded ones but a fraction of the price :o

Hope you get some peace of mind soon, good luck!

Hi alwaysanauntie, thanks for your message - I'm sure you're right and it's nothing, it's difficult with the mirena because it messes up your periods as you say...it's strange not knowing when the next one's going to come! Apart from that it's been great for me so I think I'll stick with it. I'll also wait a week and see if the nausea goes, if not I'll try a test. Will try Tescos, thanks for the advice! :)

Hello, I don't wont to scare you but I am due 21st March and I am the one who got pregnant on Mirena. Doctor didn't believe me when I told her that I am feeling as I am pregnant and test they did in clinic was unclear, but "Clear Blue" shows positive result. I am clearly the one percent who got pregnant on it. I had Mirena for 3,5 years and it was perfectly in place and I had no periods at all for that time.....so like my husband said - the only 100% effective contraception is celibacy! lol

Ah celibacy..I might have to give that one a try! ;) Thanks for your message Safary, in a way it's good to know that I'm not being completely mad/paranoid and that it is a possibility...I always hear of people getting pregnant on Mirena but have never spoken to someone who has before! I know the chances are slim so will try not to think about it until I take a test... Anyway hope you're looking forward to your new arrival now you've recovered from the shock (!), congratulations and good luck with the birth :) x
