Why would you Confused?

In that three stone is a mixture of baby, amniotic fluid, placenta, increased blood volume, increased water and increased body fat which your body lays down naturally in order to sustain you through labour and the first weeks of breastfeeding.

Once you've got through the first couple of weeks (with all of the lovely night sweats etc) then you'll probably find there's a stone or less to lose.

Very true it's just scary seeing it, I've been in denial the whole time so it's s big shock now I've weighed myself!!

As long as she's healthy ;)

Agree with Fliss - you will probably find that you lose at least a stone overnight when you give birth, due to the baby, amniotic fluid and placenta. The first few weeks will most likely take care of at least another stone and then you only have a little to lose.

One piece of advice from someone who is a week further on than you - put the scales away Wink

There's a reason they don't generally weigh pregnant women routinely now - how on earth can a MW tell what's any of the above stuff, and what's cake retention?

:)

i made that mistake in my first pregnancy! and I'd put on exactly 3 stone too!

have diligently avoided all sets of scales in this one to avoid getting as bothered as i was last time- funny, because i'm really not someone who worries about numbers on the whole, but i did end up being a bit preoccupied with it!!

i've got to say, it took longer than i expected for it all to come off (but then, i was expecting to be able to get back into my pre- jeans in a week or so Hmm, but i was the skinniest I've been in years just before conceiving this time round...

just remember: step away from the scales ! ! !

lilmamma · 18/03/2012 20:30

I remember with one of mine,we got the tape measure out and i was 44,44, 44, haha tlk about a round ball :)

Just don't! Weigh yourself, I mean... I have no idea how much weight I put on in my first pregnancy. I was 9 stone when I fell pregnant and I'd gained a stone and a half by 6 months, so after that I decided not to go near the scales again! Which was a good thing, as I turned into a whale subsequently. I don't know how much was baby / fluid or cake, but it took about 9 months to get back down to normal after giving birth. But, I figure, it takes 9 months to put the weight on, so 9 months for it to come off is very reasonable!

schroedingersdodo · 19/03/2012 13:58

I've put on nearly 3 stone , and 5 months after the birth I'd lost all 3 of them plus 1, and was skinny. I bf exclusively all the way - it uses do many energy and calories, you just use up all the fat reserves in your body (you burn 500 cal a day with bf, I've read)

Meglet · 19/03/2012 14:04

I put on nearly 3 stone each time and that was even with going to the gym until the end of each pregnancy.

The first stone went once the baby, placenta and fluid came out.

The second stone after a month or so. Even recovering from sections meant I was a little active as I was caring for a new baby.

The third stone came off within 9 months. I was back at the gym and walking everywhere.

I'm 35 and I've put probably about the same,if not a wee bit more! (OH has hidden my scales!). I'm only comfy in the bath- I think I may be turning into a seal- just throw me a fish (or preferably a cake!)

runlolarun10 · 19/03/2012 17:03

I've put on nearly 2 stone at 27 weeks, but people keep telling me I'm tiny and need to eat more!

Merje · 19/03/2012 18:23

I have put on about 4 stone now (I am 38 weeks). I wish someone would have hidden my scales! I was quite obsessive about weight before getting pregnant and used to weigh myself every morning as a way to ensure I was not gaining weight so seeing the extra pounds pile on has been a massive downer..

Trouble is, now I know how much it is, I am feeling really fat. Doesn't help that most of the other ladies in my NCT group are still as thin as ever apart from discreet bumps..
