Nursing bras???

Morning all, I want / need to buy some nursing bras this week but not sure what size to buy. I'm 34+1 and know my boobs are going to get massive when I give birth so I'm guessing there's no point buying a bra that fits me now? should i be buying a cup size or 2 up - or back size up as well?

Hope this isn't a super silly question that I really should no the answer to!

Thanks Hayley xx

hi justhayley. Had this same issue and looked around for a bra that would see me through my milk coming in and still fit, until I know what size I'm going to be. Read several reviews saying that the Bravado Seamless Nursing Bra was really comfortable, and it is. The bras aren't sized though, just S, M and L (there's usually a chart on most sites to help you work out which size to get).
Was a bit wary of this, but they do support during light activity and because they're stretchy, I think they'll grow with me. I'm a 36E atm, but who knows what size I'll be laterConfused

They're not really the most glamorous looking bras (a bit frumpy tbh) and they'd be absolutely crap if you were doing anything more strenuous than walking around/breastfeeding- but as a stop-gap, they're good, and comfy enough to sleep in after birth if you needed something more supportive for the day. Think they're pricy at £30 ish though and I can see there might be fitting issues for some people, e.g. esp if your bra size is classed as M but at the smaller end of the size range, if you catch my drift.
Hope this helps:)

I second the bravado bra. Not the most glamorous but really comfy and don't give you that pointy boob look that a lot of non wired bras give you.

I was a 34f and had both medium and large. Both were comfy but the large slightly more so I think.

Thank you Smile that does help had no clue they wernt sized like normal bras. Is that everywhere on just certain shops? Iv been told Mothercare & M&S are the places to go for nursing bras

justhayley most nursing bras follow normal bra sizing Smile

FreshwaterPlimpies · 18/03/2012 10:06

Not sure about all Bravado bras, but the Bravado seamless one is defo just the 3 sizes. I agree with the lack of pointy-boobness though, it's great:o
I couldn't tell you which shop to go to as I got my 2 online, John Lewis.
Good luck!

FreshwaterPlimpies · 18/03/2012 10:10

Oh and what Flisspaps said.. I think the Bravado one is the exception. Other nursing bras I tried before have just followed normal bra sizing (i.e. different in every flipping shop!)

I found mothercare and m&s the absolute worst places for fitting! Had mine fitted at a nice lingerie shop that sold 'Hot Milk' brand, bought one from there and ordered the rest on line (previous season's designs so cheaper). I find them supportive yet stretchy and am now wearing same size again while pg with no. 2. Hoping breasts won't grow much after birth this time.

Yorky · 18/03/2012 10:22

Agree mothercare bras/fitting service not up to much.
Although I got fitted at bravissimo and was a completely different size to the one Mcare sold me! but can't wear the bravissimo one atm as it feels ike the back strap is trying to cut me in half - managing on what I've got for the next month until this baby hatches and I can go shopping again - so tricky finding nice stockists of decent nursing bras where you can try them on as ordering online never works for me - everyone sizing is different grrr!

tangledupinblue2 · 18/03/2012 20:49

Another bravado advocate here. Found them v comfortable and good fit

www.nursing-bra.co.uk is a really good website/company to buy online from

Have ordered all of mine from there for last 2 pregnancies/breastfeeding

Also hot milk do some nice bras...can get them on above site

susiegrapevine · 18/03/2012 22:32

I found some on figleaves that have streachy cups but are cup sized for when the milk comes in tho this was when iwas pregnant with ds who is 2 in june might be an idea to look there

lou1403 · 19/03/2012 10:46

Emma Jane bras are great. And I was told by a friend that if Figleaves have a rep in your area, they'll come to the house to measure you.

susiegrapevine · 19/03/2012 20:47

Oh yes emma jane that's the ones I was talking about! Thanks lou

melliebobs · 19/03/2012 21:34

I went and had a fitting at M&S when I was 39+5. Think I ended up getting one back size and going from an E to G cup

rocket74 · 19/03/2012 21:49

Getting measured properly at Bravissimo when my DS was about 4 weeks was a revelation so will be going there again. Currently wearing the royce nursing bra from them (also on figleaves) I'm 26 weeks. Also the white cotton sleep bras from JoJoMameBebe are great for now as getting big (I'm a GG) and are great for nighttime nursing when baby arrives.

Grin thanks all this is really helpful I don't feel half as lost and confused as I did a few days ago Grin
