Ok...here it goes. I know I'm going to get a lot of harsh comments for this. I have carried out a few self internal exams, to check for dilation as I have had many pains and what not. It is difficult for me to get to hospital and get checked. So thought itd be completely safe..however I am now panicking if there's the chance I've introduced strep B bacteria, I am very scared of this now. My partner has had an infection which has said to be thrush and other things (can't remember name) which he's had for a while, ihes had creams for them which cleared them so then obviously thought sex was ok. Now I'm panicking that it might of been intoduced that way as it does keep coming back? I have had many swabs done in this pregnancy to test for infections all has came back clear but I'm not sure if any was for strep b.this has all set me worrying as I've just read about a baby die from contracting it in that's life magazine. I feel so ashamed that I could of harmed my baby by checking myself. I don't know what to do..do you think I would have been tested for it as I've had many swabs taken? Or do you think I should mention to midwife about my partners reccuring infection which btw is not an sti, doctors keep passing it off as thrush. When he has it we do not have sex, only when symptoms are cleared after course of cream.

I'm pretty sure Strp B isn't an STD if that's specifically what you're worried about.

No I've not got an STD or STI I know I've been tested for them. I'm just worrying about whether I could of introduced the bacteria either by with my partner who has a reccuring infection or by checking myself

Lots of people have strep B infection for no obvious reason. I wouldn't recommend examining yourself anymore because you might graze yourself or introduce infection, but I think just a quick call to the midwife to say you are worried about infection and could you do another swab would be worthwhile. I'm not an expert though, sorry

I tested positive for strep B (this was during a test for STIs - which was otherwise clear. I'm not sure if they actually test for strep b routinely when you're pregnant?)

Anyway, as they knew I had strep B, I had antibiotics during labour. Not ideal, but infinitely better than the possible consequences of strep B.

What I'm trying to say is please don't worry, if you do have it you can be treated for it.

Yes, definitely mention to your GP / midwife about your DP's infection.

Why are you giving yourself internal exams by the way?

threeleftfeet · 17/03/2012 10:54

Or rather, if they know you have it they can protect your baby from it by giving you antibiotics during labour.

Thank you..I will mention to my midwife..I actually don't know was very stupid of me..I have been having a lot of braxton hicks and pains so thought itd be easier to check myself instead of going to hospital. Researched it and apparently its ok. Although some conspiracy.no just got the dreadful thought in my head today
