......morning ladies!

I'm going on maternity leave on 30th March, my baby is due 12th April and i'm coming back to work 2nd Jan next year.

I'm getting the minimum 90% pay for 6 weeks then statutory maternity pay for the next 33 weeks!

I was just wondering if i'm allowed to do a bit of work, for example just 2 x 4 hour shifts in a pub per week, this company i work for is quite small and i'm sure i've read somewhere that they can claim my maternity back from the government so would working aswell be like benefit fraud?

Does anyone know the rules? x

No you're really not allowed to work at all! Sorry.

I'd ask in "back to work" forum, there are some really knowledgeable employment lawyers in there.

It's not as clearcut as pootles says; I know there are some oddities, like you can do self-employed work at the same time as being on mat leave from your "main job" iyswim, so it's worth asking. And if in doubt, you can always call HMRC who are very helpful indeed.

According to the rules, no you can't. You aren't allowed to receive any wages whilst you are being paid either SMP or Maternity Allowance. You are allowed to be paid for up to ten Keeping In Touch days with your regular employer.
