ANTI D question ....

I am 28 weeks with DC2 and rhesus negative. When I was preg with Ds, didn't have Anti-D injections as Dh is rhesus neg. DS is also neg. So this time am not planning to get the injections done either, but just trying to check that this is sensible? (I told my MW at last appointment that I didn't want it and she didn't really say much so just assumed it was ok not to, but now am wondering whether there is more to it !!)

If you are both neg then there is no chance of a pos baby - iirc. However, our PCT never asked and I had it both times.

But DH must be pos as both mine are! They will test the baby's blood from the cord I think and if baby is positive then you will have an injection post birth which will help future pregnancies.

As DC1 was neg then there is no risk for dc2. However, if dc2 were to be pos then there would be a potential risk for dc3 - hence the post birth injection.

Some PCT's don't take the risk, as even if you say both you and the baby's father are -ve, there is a risk that who you say the father is, isnt actually the father, so they play it safe IYSWIM.

However, if you know your DH is the father and he is negative and you are negative, then fine not to have it.

As BillyBollyBandy says if your DH is negative then no need for anti-D as it's not a case of two negatives make a positive. Although DH did need a blood test to prove his blood type.
