Crazy cycles- when is my baby due?!

Have also posted this in conception...

After 7 months of trying and some crazy cycles, I finally got my bfp last week. However, given said crazy cycles, I have no idea a) when I conceived or b) when baby is due. I really don't want to take a digital dating test and panic because it's earlier than I thought- and I am deeply disheartened by the idea of my due date being even a week later than I thought it was! (Going by normal cycles it would be 11th Nov).

Can anyone, based on the info below, shed any light on this? Would be very grateful. Thanks.

My ttc journey:

Cycle 1: 29 days
Cycle 2: 29 days
Cycle 3: 29 days
Cycle 4: 29 days
Cycle 5: 54 days(!!)
Cycle 6: 40 days (!)

Cycle 7:

  • EWCM on cd9, cd22 and cd24 (mad)
  • Implantation bleed cd29
  • faint bfp cd31
  • proper BFP cd32
  • today is CD39

I would imagine you conceived somewhere around the day 22-24 mark, judging by the EWCM & bleed. Use an online calculator & input one of the dates, say cd23 & get it to calculate 'from conception'.

The EDD is just a formality really, they will use the 12wk scan to date your pregnancy & decide how far along you are. Nobody really knows when they ovulate or concieve, and providing you tell your GP/MW about your irregular cycles, they may even get you booked in for an earlier dating scan, as it could make a big difference (I.e. nearly 2wks in your case).

Congrats on your BFP.

Firstly, congratulations! :o

I had very odd cycles as well, and got my bfp mid September after 18 months of trying. My cycles lasted anywhere between 5 weeks and 5 months, so like you I really had no idea when I conceived or when dc was due. I found the best approach for me was to put in longest & shortest of my most recent 4 cycles into the NHS due date calculator which gave me a 2 week window.

IMHO at this early stage it's really not worth getting wound up about conception or due dates (unless it matters for other reasons) as your edd will often be changed after 12 week scan based on the baby's size, and only 5% of babies are born on their due date anyway (between 37 and 42 weeks is considered term, so brace yourself for a different arrival date than expected anyway!). Sorry if that's not quite the answer you were after, but I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to do the maths bit! :)

Ps, just cross posted, but other post reminded me my mw dated me from first day of last menstrual cycle despite my long cycles so that at least meant I got a scan when I was only 11 weeks and went back at 13 weeks for screening scan, 2 for the price of 1 which was lovely!

Thanks for the replies- really useful. It doesn't really matter I suppose... but you know in these early weeks, you're so desperate for time to pass and to be further on so that you can have scan and get some reassurance, and also for the chances of MC to fall...

Is it too early to make a booking in appointment?

I agree with chunky chicken, you probably ovulated around cd 23ish at the latest - that would mean that your first bfp was very early indeed. I would imagine that if you did a conception indicator test it would most likely say 2-3 weeks, which would make you 4-5 weeks pregnant. So make a booking appointment for about 3 weeks time.

Since your last period was not massively long ago, they probably won't give you an early dating scan, although they might if you are lucky based on your cycle history. I imagine they will send you for a scan 12 weeks from your last period, but you are likely to only be 10 1/2 weeks pregnant at that point due to the late ovulation.

I went to the GP at about 5-6 weeks with my DD but didn't see the MW for booking in at 8wks. Looking at your dates, maybe give it until next week & book then? That would be roughly 3wks post conception and ~5wks in a 'conventional' cycle.
:)

Should say 'until' not 'at 8wks'... makes more sense now!!!
