Hi - i'm off work today, trying to relax, its my 3rd pregnancy but im only aobut 5 wkks along. 2 days ago I started getting a slight light brown discharge everytime i go to the loo. (this is not lasting all day)

Anyway managed to get a doctors appt today he didnt really give me reassurance, he just said it could be old blood, and i need an ealry scan.

Now i just have to sit and wait to see what happens. I just wonder how common this symton is?

Would luv to hear any similar experiences

bleeding in early pregnancy is fairly common. i read somewhere that 25% of women who go on to have live births also have bleeding in the first trimester.

You might not be able to see the babe or the gestational sac at 5 weeks, usually it's only visible from 6 weeks, so i assume they'll scan you then? an early scan is really the only way to tell what's what.

fwiw i had a bright red bleed at 8 weeks, and a scan confirmed all was well. am now 12 weeks and have had no further issues.

wishing you a long and healthy pregnancy x hope it all works out as it should.

I belong to a Facebook group of currently pregnant ladies. So many of them had what you're experiencing, and everything is fine. Brown blood is older blood, they worry more if it's fresh but even then, there can be non-harmful reasons for it.

Your scan will hopefully reassure you. Good luck.

hi oikopolis

Oh youve no idea how nice it is to get your message. My GP was nt very informative. You have made me bit less anxiious.

Great to hear your scan news was good, so happy for you its so encouraging for me.

By the way there is an @early preggy unit at my hospital and they ve booked me in for this friday- ddont know quite what they will be able to check so early as you say?

Anyway have to face my work colleagues tomorrow, think ive told them too early as they will wnat to know everything.
