Dull ache in one boob

Not tender to the touch, or sensitive, but a mild, slow throbbing dull ache in just one boob, above the nipple. This is day 2 and it comes and goes.

Would anyone like to diagnose me as I'm not due to see the midwife for another fortnight?

Mastitis? Is there any redness or heat? How do you feel in yourself?

Sorry! Not much of a diagnosis!

can you get mastitis mid pregnancy?

there's no heat or anything and I feel fine, but the ache does feel like it travels down towards the nipple IYSWIM.

I'm pregnant (20+1, second time) and have had a few rather unpleasant stabbing pains in one boob recently - seems to happen just when I've woken up so may be partly due to sleeping position. This didn't happen with DC1 btw.

Of course your boobs are gearing up to produce milk like they're an industrial dairy farm, so that might have something to do with it!! I'll be amazed if your midwife says anything other than 'Yes that happens sometimes, don't worry.'

How far along are you, out of interest?

thanks cerys, I'm 24 weeks with DC 3.

I reckon you're right and it's pretty normal, just never had it before and I wondered if it was normal pregnancy thing, or something unrelated. But now you mention, 'industrial dairy farm' that seems like a good explanation! Grin

You can get mastitis any time - I had it at uni. There was a redness and feeling unwell that went with it too though so maybe not that.

I'm currently 27w pg and do get the odd stabbing pain and ache here and there. If it gets more persistant or you feel unwell see your gp/midwife.

Hi,

I get this quite often and find that it often starts with heat and iching and then after a while I leak milk. I think it is something to do with the letdown reflex. xx

thanks for your advice, I'll keep an eye on it. It's not causing me any bother really.

I was getting the same thing, just in one side and the occasional shooting pain down through the nipple.
I found that a certain bra I was wearing aggravated it, not sure if the fit was wrong or something but stopping wearing it stopped the pain.

that's interesting littlemiss, I'm growing out of my bras but not had chance to go and get measured again yet. That's one for my to do list.
