Was wondering if anyone else has had a high reading at 12 week scan? Haven't stop worrying since :( and placenta not reachable for cvs :(

I had 4.6mm and a 1:3 chance. Had an amnio at 16 wks which was clear. DS is now 10mo old and entirely normal.

Yes it is high, but there is still a 90% chance it's fine.

All the best xx

tylersmum123 I had a great measurement just 1.4mm but my bloods were rubbish and my odds came back 1:36. From wat I've read you can have ds with large or small nt measurement and good or bad bloods - nothing is certain. I've decided to have an amnio next week because I just have to know.maybe it's something you could consider the risk is slightly less than cvs but you have to be 15wk+. It's such a worrying time thinking of you xx

Ilovekittyelise · 10/03/2012 13:41

can i just point out - its not a 90% chance things will be fine, its a 90% chance the baby will not have down's. a high nuchal thickness is indicative of a multitude of chromosomal abnormalities, not just downs; it may well be fine, but 4.1mm is quite a high reading.

having had a nuchal thickness of 5.0mm in my first pregnancy, and going through the tests and ending up having a termination (i was one in five for down's, we all thought it was edwards or pattau, but it turned out to be downs), i would urge that you get all the testing you can so that you can either set your mind at rest, or make an informed decision.

did you already try to have CVS then? are you booked in for an amnio further down the line?

you may wish to visit the antenatal results and choices board.

i hope you are ok, this is a very difficult time for you, for your relationship, and everything. i really do hope everything is ok.

Hi thanks for the replies, I've tried twice for cvs but they sayed it wasn't possible to get in because of my bowels ? , so I now have to wait another 3 weeks for amnio. Going to be a long 3 weeks but fingerscrossed the results after amnio will be good,

Ilovekittyelise , how far on were you when you found out the results ? If you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the kind words everyone else :) x

tylersmum I think you're doing the right thing in having an amnio, I'm in a similar position to you my odds are 1:36 and I had an amnio on Monday. I'm presently chewing my nails waiting for the results which should be in by Friday. Even though there are loads of posters who have had bad odds and gone on to have lovely healthy babies you can't help wondering what if... If its any help there are quite a few of us going through the same thing and it's a terrible worry and not one that you can empathise with unless you've been through it. Hang in there and book up for the amnio I really hope that everything works out well for you. Sending you a hug to let you know that I understand xxx

shoeprincess2 · 14/03/2012 18:19

My nuchal reading was 4.1mm and I've come in with a 1:5 chance of Down's. Having an amnio on 26th March, as I want to have all the facts to hand, rather than just working off odds. There'll be lots of hand wringing in the week and a half to come, but I am now thinking that all this worrying is not going to do me any good. Take each day as it comes, and each test as it comes.

Boggler · 14/03/2012 22:04

shoeprincess I know the feeling of counting down to the amnio, but the 26th will be here before you know it. Hang in there xxx

tylersmum123 · 15/03/2012 08:05

Good luck boggler, hope u get good results on friday!,.. Yeh the waiting around seems to drag in doesn't it ? I've got till the 3rd to wait , best of luck for the 26th tho :) ..

tylersmum hope the wait passes quickly and shoeprincess hope yours goes well.

I got my results today and they're all clear! It's such a relief and I feel that a huge weight has been lifted from me. My odds weren't particularly good and I'm glad I opted for the amnio I couldn't have stood the strain of not knowing for another 6 months.

Hpbp · 16/03/2012 10:13

Good luck every one. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to decide to terminate and I sincerely hope you will not need to do so. I thought about this a bit while i was waiting for the first set of results, i could not think about termination, i would have not coped. Fingers crossed for every one.

Ilovekittyelise · 16/03/2012 11:34

Hi Tyler's mum,

We were a little bit earlier - they said 12 weeks but it was 11+3 (and earlier scan confirmed this) when we had the scan, and then by the time we had CVS and results it was another 10 days or so. sorry you are going through this, i hope it all turns out to be ok. i dont think any amount of preparing yourself for the worst prepares you for the worst, its an awful kind of limbo and im sorry your's has to be so long. x

tylersmum123 · 19/03/2012 15:50

Thanks everyone, great news boggler I bet you can start enjoying your pregnancy now?

OP posts:
Boggler · 20/03/2012 11:12

tylersmum I might start to enjoy things if I wasn't feeling so sick! I thought my sickness had stopped at 14 wks but it's all coming back which is not so good. But overall everything is much sunnier since getting the result :-)
When are you having your test? Fingers crossed for you. X

hello, was wondering how everyone else going through this is getting on? since having my clear amnio results, ive had my 20 week scan and everything was normal, they still want me back for a scan at 28 weeks but said not to worry as they dont think they will find any thing on it wrong, but i cant stop worrying, wondered if im the only one, or should i just relax now :( ?
