I was surprised when my friend insisted that you can tell the gender at 12 weeks and that was when she was told.

Sorry, no you can't. You have to wait until 20 weeks

they can't be definitive but they can have a good guess. i was told that my dd2 was a dd at twelve weeks, so long as i promised not to sue if it was wrong... Grin

Yes sonographers can usually tell if they look but won't normally tell you.

You can have private gender scans from 16w.

Thats what I thought but my friend was insisting you can. I was just intrigued as I'd never heard this.
She's not the type to be confused or flaky.

Yes, sometimes. We had a private scan, and the sonographer asked us if we'd like to know. Then he tried really hard to find out, but wasn't actually able to in the end.

Google 'nub theory' (or you might be able to search for it on MN) :)

The sonographer wouldn't say at 12wk scan; I've had a look at my scan pictures and read up on it, so have made a guess. Hopefully (fingers crossed) we'll find out next week if baby and hospital are willing to reveal all :o

Yes, you can, but they can't be as sure as at 20wks. We had our 12wk scan at a teaching hospital with a student observing, so it was very thorough. They asked if we wanted to know and we were Shock but said yes. They were right :)
