hi guys am very excited as me and DH have decided to come of the pill and ttc.

I am just wondering what peoples experiences are of coming of the pill mavelon in particular and how long it too them to get pregnant ect.

Also what sort of things I should be doing now apart from the obvious

What foods I should be eating to increase fertility and things to avoid.

Any advice would be greatly apricated and just wanted to share my news as were not telling anyone apart from one very close friend in rl

hi I've been on marvelon for years!!!! first time took 6 months to get pregnant this time just over a year Hmm ??

make sure you start taking folic acid now and try and eat a healthy diet.

good luck with ttc :)

I was on marvelon for about 5 years, missed a couple of pills and ended up pregnant (luckily we had been talking about me stopping taking them within a few months of this happening anyway!) DS is now nearly 1!

I don't have any experience with Marvelon, but if you want to improve your chances of conceiving quickly, you could try:

  • ovulation predictor kit (pee on a stick things - available from Boots)
  • Pre-Seed sperm friendly lubricant (whereas normal lubes and saliva kill sperm, this one helps them swim to their target. It comes with applicators so you can insert it before intercourse)
  • Instead Softcups (these are normally used as an alternative to tampons to catch menstrual flow, but many women are popping one in after intercourse to stop leakage and keep the sperm close to the cervix. Don't be put off by the size - they do look quite terrifying(!) - you actually squish it together and insert sideways and it's totally fine)

The latter two can be purchased on Amazon.

Good luck!

It was a bit of a shock! We were expecting to be trying for a few months. Good luck with TTC! :)

I've heard you can be particularly fertile straight after coming off the pill.. Well that was the case for us - pregnant 1st week - and at least 2 others I've heard of! I was on Mercilon.

Sidge · 11/03/2012 22:08

In theory you could ovulate within days of coming off the pill - hence why you can get pregnant if you miss a couple!

Start folic acid 5mg daily straight away, as it's needed before you even know you're pregnant as that's when the neural cord starts to develop.

The bleed you're having now is unlikely to be a true period (it's probably the post pill withdrawal bleed) so do keep track of your bleeding so you know when your next period happens.

Have sex every 2-3 days throughout the month.

Stop smoking, stop recreational drugs, reduce alcohol and eat well and exercise regularly.

Good luck Smile

hi all, Just got back from the gp's and have been given 400mcg's of folic acid.

Really Weird as even tho af came on time (4 days after last pill) i am still symtom spotting, i have got Weird pains in abdomen (not usual af pains) af was alot lighter than usual and have hack ache and tierd at only 9.00pm.

Its down to the fact i missed loads of pills on my last month.

So think i will be a nervous wreak on here every 2ww. Blush

I was on marvelon for 2 years before we started ttc. I had one period after I stopped taking it and was pg the next month Grin . The mw told me its best to wait 3 cycles after stopping the pill before ttc as theres more chance of twins if you get pg straight after stopping the pill.

oikopolis · 12/03/2012 15:48

on marvelon for 15ish years. came off in november, ovulated 2 weeks later, period 4 weeks later (was tracking fertility using temperatures to prevent pregnancy, because we didn't want an august baby if we could help it).

pregnant the next month (conceived on New Year's Eve). first month trying.

what we did:

  • folic acid
  • no caffeine or NSAIDs (ibuprofen etc) from a week before predicted ovulation and until testing date
  • used OPKs to confirm that ovulation was approaching
  • guaifenesin around ovulation (three times a day) to thin cervical mucus
  • 3 minute headstand after sex
  • sex every day for five days before predicted ovulation/until ov appeared, and two days after
