Painful breasts when running

I am 11 weeks pregnant and have found that when I run, my nipples become erect and the pain is excruciating. Sorry if that's tmi! I really want to carry on running. I am not going fast or for a long time. However I can't bear the pain if it's going to continue. Has anyone else experienced this and did you find any solutions? Thanks!

I'm not a runner though I'm interested in doing couch25k once I've had baby, I'm sure some more active mums will be along shortly.

Is it possible you need to check your bra size which might be changing or even double up to give yourself more support.

That said, I've had a few moments when that has happened to me recently, though I wasn't exercising at the time. Often when I'm coming out of the shower and today during the day for no discernable reason. I went topless/bra-less for a bit till they settled down, though not an advisable solution whilst running. Shock

I'm just reading the Runners World pregnant runners forum, so if I find any tips on there I will post and let you know :)

Have you got a decent sports bra? One with good support?

Thanks for responding! I do have a good sports bra. Got the most sturdy one when I did the marathon last year. I may have outgrown it though as my breasts have grown. Maybe I should go and get measured.
I will also check out runners world, that's a good idea.
Thanks very much

tape them!?

I was training for a half marathon when I found out I was pregnant and this is one of the reasons I've stopped running - my boobs hurt when I run, the nipple chaffage you mention is horrible, and I am totally breathless even as a snail's pace.

Interested to hear if you find any solutions to the boob/nipples thing Smile

a fitting bra and breastpads help

Was coming on here to suggest breast pads...
