Nerves re: 12 week scan after MC

Hi, I have my 12 week scan and nuchal tests on Friday, and I'm nervous. This is when things went wrong in my PG last time - we had a normal HB and measurements, but blood tests detected very low hormone levels. The baby only lasted a few more weeks and I had a MMC at 14 weeks.

This PG began as twins and we have unfortunately lost one, so while the other baby seems ok and showed normal HB and measurements at a 10-week (early) scan, I am nervous something else will go wrong.

Has anyone had an experience where they had low hormone levels and lost a baby, and then went on to be ok in subsequent pregnancies? Do you know if the hospital will let me know about hormone levels straight away, or will I need to wait for results in the post? Having seen the HB at 10 weeks are the odds smaller that things will go wrong again?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I don't know the answer, but just wanted to say good luck for Friday.

good luck tomorrow! i have just had my 12 week scan last friday and i didnt get to find out hormone levels straight away, but i know others on my ante-natal thread did, so it must just depend on which hospital you are at.

try not to worry as that wont help anything, and a good strong heartbeat at 10 weeks is a good sign :)

Thanks Tiago and Tinker - I am feeling a bit more settled today and determined not to let my nerves get the better of me. What will be will be and all that! Appreciate the support x

Hi Beans - no specialist advice unfortunately, but I hope that all goes well with your scan. It's hard, but do try not to worry too much. My last pregnancy ended in a MMC discovered at the 12 week scan and it was devastating. However, I'm now 37 weeks and expecting my first DD soon. From what I understand the odds of two MMC's in a row are very, very slim. It is far, far more likely that all will be perfectly well. But I remember how nervous I was at the scans - couldn't even look at the screen I was so frightened. And I just burst into tears when the the heartbeat was found. It was such a relief after the previous trauma. I'm sure things will be alright - take care!

Hi Mitsouko thanks for your kind words - I appreciate it. Sorry to hear about your MMC, but congratulations on your imminent DD and thank you for letting me know positive endings happen! x

Beans good luck for Friday. I had a MMC discovered at my 12 week scan in my first pregnancy and am currently a couple of weeks away from my 12 week scan this time - and bricking it!

I have nothing useful to add other than hang on in there. I feel like I'm wishing the weeks away at the moment so I won't patronise you by saying try not to worry as it is totally impossible not to!

Hi whatsoever - thanks for your message and congrats on your PG, it is so scary when you've had previous disappointments isn't it? Fingers crossed all goes well for us both - I know the odds are massively in our favour. Will let you know how I get on x

Just a quickie to thank you all for your support - my scan and tests this time went brilliantly - baby just as he/she should be, and odds of any genetic abnormalities were 1 in 9000+, so it seems that after our bumpy journey this far, the road ahead should be a little smoother. Thanks so much xx

Just wanted to say I am so glad it has gone well for you - I have my 12 week scan on Weds next week after 2 MCs (much earlier, 6 weeks in the past) but feel stressed that something will be wrong. Here's to healthy babies :)
