Anyone had a cervical stitch?

I'm baby #3 and about a year ago had a cone biopsy and lletz procedure. I had a quick chat with the consultant who did the procedure (I work in the operating dept) and he suggested I mention it to the midwife.

When I did mention it to her she seemed a bit nonplussed but said she'd refer me to an obs consultant later in the pregnancy if necessary.

I'm wondering if I need to push for an appointment or go private to see the obs consultant sooner so they can scan me and check the length of my cervix at this stage.

If you had to have a stitch when did the process start for you and how was it triggered? Thanks in advance.

I haven't had one, but I think it is not until the second trimester? Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will be along. You don't say how far along you are, but I would speak to your GP for a referral or pester for one as depending on th the hops it can take awhile to get into the system.

I've had the treatment too, about 5 years ago - I keep mentioning it and have pushed for extra scans to measure the length of my cervix (I had 2 extra, at 17 and 28 weeks, and at my 12 and 21 they also measured it). It is shorter but has stayed the same length at each scan, but TBH, both midwife and consultant very relaxed about it. I didn't have a stitch put in and am now 33 weeks, so all good so far. I do still worry that baby will come early due to having a shorter cervix, but really, no one else is worried! Good luck and insist on extra scans if that's what will make you worry less.

Hi AhsokaTano. My friend has had a few of those procedures. She is 17 weeks with DC1. She is private and her consultant has said that he very rarely does a stitch nowadays. Apparently things have "moved on".
She gets scanned regularly though.

Hi, thanks for your replies, I might try asking the midwife again next time I see her.

Interesting to hear it's not so much the done thing these days though.

I'm 14 weeks btw which is why I've started to think about it really.
