Hi all,

I am a well controlled insulin dependent diabetic and have just discovered I am pregnant. I think I am only about 4-5 weeks but was keen to hear from any other diabetics who are either going through pregnancy now or have done before? I am feeling quite scared by the whole prospect of pregnancy and as per usual, am probably focussing on worse case scenario so would really appreciate any advice on what to expect?

thanks

Katie

Me! I am nearing the end of my second pregnancy.

First was uncomplicated (although I did find it stressful), healthy baby boy delivered by elcs (my choice over induction) at 38w+2.

33 weeks into second pregnancy, this one has been a bit harder as I have experienced more insulin resistance and have rather high fluid levels (which may or may not be linked to the diabetes). Baby is looking healthy though and should be here in five weeks.

My care has been excellent in both pregnancies - LOTS of appointments, which get a bit tedious, but it's good to be monitored so closely. I can honestly say the biggest problem I've had is Managung the appointments with working, not the actual pregnancy. You will most likely be referred to your hospitals diabetic antenatal clinic, where
your care will be consultant led rather than midwife led.

Is there anything else you would like to know?
