Unexpected extra antenatal appointment - why?

I just came home to a letter from our local hospital (Royal Surrey) to find a letter asking me to go and see a Dr. koomson at the beginning of April when I will be about 19 weeks. The letter says it is to discuss my medical and obstetric history. I had pre-eclampsia with DD but that was managed with blood pressure drugs and I had an mc at 11 weeks last year. I really don't know why they want to see me. My bloods, weight, blood pressure etc are all normal.

I called the Antenatal dept as soon as I got home but there was no answer. Has anyone else had an unexpected, extra antenatal appointment at their hospital like this?

It will be a consultant appointment with regards to the pre eclampsia. Try not to worry too much of it were something bad they would want to see you more quickly than that.

Will you have had your anomaly scan by then?

I had an unexpected appointment at 20wks. I shat myself thinking it meant my quad test had come back high risk. Turned out it was 'routine' to discuss the results of my scan.

Why don't they just say on the letter what the appointment is for?! and then when you turn up they say at reception, 'what's the appointment for?'! I don't bloody know, you tell me!!

Agreed on the frustration about lack of information on the letter. Putting pregnant women under stress like this is a bad idea! Thanks for the idea that it might be to do with the pre-eclampsia. I am a huge fan of the NHS but find such unexpected and uninformed communication stressful and annoying.

Anomaly scan will be about two weeks later.

I think having pre-eclampsia in your first pregnancy automatically puts you as high risk for subsequent pregnancy and the consultant will at want you under their care.

I'm high risk (St Richards Chichester not far from you) and had great care my consultant was lovely

I had an extra one but that was apprently due to my BMI. The midwife hadn't explained this at booking so I panicked when I got the letter through. I called the antenatal clinic and they looked it up for me and explained.

If I'm honest, it was a complete waste of time. The consultant asked me no different that the midwife did and certainly didn't give me any further info. All just a case of ticking boxes. Ho hum!
